A thread for all who have DC with SN. The thread is deleted in 90 days and doesn’t show in active. The season is changing and the bar is well stocked.

I think I'm going to have to contact the DWP. I received a large payment for DD2 today. I think, from the amount, that they've refunded her all the mobility allowance that was directed to Motability for her lease. But I can't find anything online that suggests it should have been refunded, nor any posts from people saying that they got this money back. The only thing I can find is that the Advanced Payment gets refunded pro-rata, and she's already received that back in full (although it was only £99).

NoHaudinMaWheest · Today 09:24

Thanks Red those are worth trying.

lougle I hope you are not on hold for too long - that doesn't sound right.

OneInEight · Today 09:35

Why so long @NoHaudinMaWheest . The ds's got their provisional licenses in a few days. Or is the system different in Scotland?

The holding music on the DWP helpline had to be the worst I have ever encountered. It honestly made me feel sick and I am not particularly sound sensitive.

NoHaudinMaWheest · Today 09:45

OneinEight it is because she will need adaptations so the application has to go through the medical section which has a huge backlog. I think I will need to chase it up again though.

@NoHaudinMaWheest that’s a long time to wait. Has DS had a physio show him any exercises?

@Lougle we’ve never had to terminate a lease, but I know someone who had a mechanical termination and received the mobility component back to when they first raised the issue that led to the termination.

I think we have found the point where exams are too much for DS1. He sat the first three OK. He didn’t sit the two last week and isn’t sitting the one today. He has two more booked. I don’t know if he will manage them, but it doesn’t matter. If he isn't able to sit one of them, the exam centre will be able to apply for special consideration for enhanced grading based on the first component, but if he isn’t able or sit the other, that won’t be possible for that because it is just one paper.

Tulipandmagnolia · Today 14:05

Thanks @Lougle Glad your DDs had a good day and hope you can get the refund issue sorted, ideally without an hours wait with terrible music.

Sorry exams are getting too much for DS1 @scoopofmintchocchipicecream but at least he got through three.

We have just had delivery of the 2 small beach hut style mini-sheds for our tools / lawnmower etc and already have the paint so can paint and put those together before too long and move our stuff out of DSs shed. We will have to do some more measurements re getting a new shed - I am hoping the council will clarify the tree position for free but we can at least calculate if it applies what impact it would have, its to do with below ground so if concrete base where to be altered. It seems they don't always ask for a tree survey but can do and we have lots of big trees around though only one is an issue. I think the current concrete base maybe a bit in its RPA, only by 5cms or so but may impact width we can have shed to. Its like a circle around the tree from the centre of trunk so DH and I need to go out there with a tape measure again.

scoopofmintchocchipicecream Sorry that Ds1 is struggling with the exams. Could he try again next year?
Ds has never had any physio input. I have suggested it but he isn't keen and as an adult it is ultimately his decision. He has been really struggling recently so may be time to push it again.

FrostySunRun · Today 14:57

Thanks ~ today DD is spent and in a combative mood, so reduced demands required. I do need to chase up exam centre as I finally managed to get into the Proportal to see they haven’t got listed the module she completed last year so hoping they can join up the 3 parts to enable a cash in for the whole qualification in August.

sorry to hear DS1 has reached his exam limit Hope other DS are coping ok and you find a solution @scoopofmintchocchipicecream

RedRegular · Today 16:29

@scoopofmintchocchipicecream what a triumph to take 3 exams, do you think there might be a strategic 4th if you skip 2 and do the last one? Or is it a total stop rather than a gap needed?

@NoHaudinMaWheest DD won’t see a physio so I gave her my planters fissure exercises. My foot is better from doing them.

@NoHaudinMaWheest would DS go swimming?

@FrostySunRun I hope you manage to sort last year’s component.

Thanks all.

It is only 2 more in this exam series rather than 3. Skipping the next one and doing the last next week did cross my mind, but a) I’m not sure DS1 is going to manage either, and b) the one where special consideration will be possible is the one later this week and I’m not sure special consideration grade enhancement will be given if we preemptively say he won’t be sitting it.

DS1 has 2 other subjects booked for November. After this summer series, I’m not sure one of them is going to work. Other than that, plans for September onwards aren’t confirmed yet. From our PoV anyway. The LA would say the plan is the completely inappropriate PMLS/SLD/PD school they have named that we are appealing. We could change our proposed plans and attempt exams again next year, but I’m not sure the outcome would be different.

NoHaudinMaWheest · Today 17:59

scoopofmintchocchipicecream unfortunately swimming is too difficult for Ds from an OCD point of view.
How is the appeal going?
