Slimming World

We’re thinking about merging this section, what do you think?

Hi all,
We’re doing some work on making the Talk boards more useful and user-friendly for both regular and new users. After looking at some stats for the site, we think we could boost activity on the whole by merging some of the lesser used sections.

We’re proposing to fold the topics in this section into the Weight loss chat area.

This should increase the number of topics in the section - and hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

why not combine the fitness, health and weight sections altogether, but keep the sub forums the same?

If that makes sense.....

I'd prefer it to be kept separate, I have the other weight loss sections hidden because I'm only interested in SW. That thing of people criticising it without understanding it is very true too.

As for posting more - well if anything you'd be more likely to miss new SW threads is they were in amongst all the other weight loss threads. I keep a lot of topics hidden, including AIBU, so my Most Active is slow moving which means I see most threads in the topics which do interest me, and it is finely tuned to my interests, please stop merging sections or this won't work. If Weight Watchers threads start popping up in my Most Active because the sections have been merged I'm not going to suddenly start posting on those, so I really can't see how it would help.

Why does it need to get used more?

I think it would be fine merged. There are plenty of threads on the regular weight loss board, once you've commented on the one you're using they're easy to find. Plus a popular one like SW would always be near the top..

If we keep the section - do you have any ideas for making sure it gets used more?

As soon as there’s a slimming world post on other boards they get hijacked by people criticising slimming world and misinformation.

Some posts on this board might not get huge amounts of responses, but quite often they’re fairly simple questions that only have one right answer...

Please keep it - I don't post but I read it a lot!
Agreed that it good to have a separate SW board.

If you all love the SE topic so much as a stand alone, why aren't you all posting in there and answering queries from posters? The majority have next to no answers

Therefore it makes perfect sense to merge the topics

I’d prefer you keep this a separate topic too. Some issues/problems are specific to Slimming World.

hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

More posts and responses aren't useful though if they're from people disagreeing with or not understanding the SW plan, as others have said above.
I think you definitely need to keep a separate section for each of the major weight loss methods/plans

I'd like to keep a separate SW thread too please.

I like having a designated SW talk thread. It can get confusing when other members viewpoints get thrown around. As a PP said, it's not nice when people comment on / put down SW when they don't understand the plan. Please keep this section Going !

No, please don’t ! Though I “lurk “in this section , I read the SW support thread daily and I’m completely in agreement with the posters above.

Nope not convinced that will work due to the fact people will get confused and give advice on the weight loss plan they follow and not the specific plan the OP is asking about.

I agree with previous posters, it's useful to have a designated area for each plan otherwise it becomes difficult to find and/or keep track.

emwithme · 20/06/2019 15:33

I agree, I don't think it'll work. I don't want to have to dig for SW threads amongst other plans (or have billions of people saying "SW can't work, it's all mugshots and Muller lights" when they don't properly understand what the SW plan actually is.

Although I do I think there are far too many subsections on Mumsnet, in this instance I'd prefer you didn't merge as when I'm on SW I don't want to read about other plans and systems for weight loss. If i want general weight loss advice there is a topic for that I think?
