Slimming World

Has slimming world worked for you?

I've been on the slimming world plan for 2 months and have lost 1 stone. It's been a journey with it's ups and downs but I really feel the plan has been good for me. I've had a number of parties and family events during that time and am confident I would have probably gained at least a stone if I wasn't on the plan.

Has the plan worked for you?

Lynniep I agree about different types of slimming clubs suiting different people. At the end of the day it is about finding the one which is sustainable long term and fits in with your life style.

Annie try another group, there are some great consultants out there, it's also good to see what goes on in other groups.

I'm struggling this week, think I may have jinxed it after saying how good it was!

Thank you lynniep,
I get what your saying about having whatever within the limits. All what you've said makes so much sense.
I go to a sw class but am not getting on at all, the class is so depressing for me and becoming a waste of time energy & money. Like you the leader is not up yo my h
I did have better results with ww years ago and have been following it now again for 3 days, I feel better and free? Not restricted. I know I can eat whatever.
I should exercise more too but the wrong side of 45 and worn out.
Thank you for being honest about some personnel things, it wasn't a rambleSmile.x

annielostit - I find the SW approach very, very restrictive (for me) WW fits my lifestyle better - I am a bit too reliant on 'fast food'. By fast food I don't mean macdonalds, pizzas etc. I mean prepacked food (sandwiches, sushi, ready meals). I like sauces. I like dairy. But most of all, I like limits without limits. With WW I have clear limits - a daily limit, and all those extra weekly limits (these are important to me). I can eat whatever the hell I like as long as I stick to those limits. If DH has a pizza, I can have some as long as I'm within my limits. If I want to save my points for an entire bottle of red on a Saturday, thats fine. Some days I don't need to eat more than my daily limit. Thats fine too.

With SW, its geared towards fresh food and always making meals from scratch. This is fantastic, but it does not suit me. I tried, but no. I found that I have no limits (unlimited pasta, meat etc) but with limits (so many syns a day of 'other' stuff). My body did not respond to this way of eating, and I couldn't ever find anything to eat that I really wanted. I didn't enjoy it. I detest the meetings. I find they have the opposite effect to intended. I find they are humiliating, however fantastic the other members are. Putting focus on 'me' each session meant I hated attending. I stayed to meetings to try and learn, but I didn't enjoy it (the leader makes a difference too - not a massive fan of ours)

Having said that, I do eat better now, and that's because slimming world taught me to eat more fruit and veg. These are unlimited on WW too - but I am much more disciplined about bulking out my meals with healthier foods.

Its not just physical and how my body processes food - its psychological as well. I had an eating disorder for 25 years. I have more freedom with what I eat on WW, and this in turn reduces or eliminates the 'guilt' I feel for eating 'something I shouldn't'. I am allowed to eat it. If I have greater freedom, I am less likely to fall off the wagon.

As far as portion control - well its entirely up to you. You eat as much as you want as long as its within the limit. To me, portion control is not the issue. It wasn't with SW really. It was the inflexibility of it that meant I was eating too many carbs.
I eat water noodles a lot now - many people baulk at them but I find them ok. This means bulk without carbs.

I do have a lot to lose (4st) and its way harder for me to lose weight now (not enough exercise and getting older)

Not sure if that rambling is in any way useful. As I said before, I know SW works. I have seen it work brilliantly. Its just horses for courses.

I've lost nearly a stone, lost 3 lb last week but put on 2 pounds this week! I did go out for dinner at the weekend and have been a bit naughty since then but thinking if it comes off that quickly it goes back on that quickly too? Any tips or advice very welcome.

Sorry early post,
Structure of sw being have what you like in portions but ww is more tailored in smaller portions.
Does that make sense?

Lynniep, can I ask why do you think ww works better for you and if you don't mind, do you want to lose much.
I ask because I want to lose 10lb but its stuck. Am thinking about structure.

I've lost 4st 9 in under 10 months. My average rate of loss is about 1.5lb/ week. I've eaten and drunk out at birthdays, christmas, holidays (about one big event non diet period per month) so its worked whilst living.

I'm a carb junkie too. For me the bit that works best is no weighing and measuring and the meals generally work for the whole family so I can cook big pots of food and the three DC tuck in too.

Its not just been about the weight loss, its been about reeducating my mindset. Not associating food with reward and guilt. I can eat cakes and chocolate and crisps but I need to make choices as to which one on any given day and enjoy that choice. I no longer pinch a bit of the DC's food or sneakily eat chocolate on my own. If I want it I plan it in/ eat it and move forwards.

I've just hit healthy 25 BMI so I'm declaring target next week, at what ever weight i am (becomes free to keep attending as a target member). I've got more events and a couple of holidays coming up in a bit of a pattern of quick succession so my plan is to minimise fluctuation +/- 3lb is allowed whilst maintaining target then re- evaluate and possibly go for the magic 23BMI which now appears to be spouted as the latest healthy weight aim.

It works but its very slow for me.
Before my ds came along (16yrs) I lost 24lb with ww, got down to 11- 4./5ft7. Struggle with sw to get below 12 but ww makes me miserable as its to strict for me.

No, not at all. It didn't work the last time I tried it (about a decade ago) either. I left the group 6 weeks ago and started with WW which does work for me.
However I have seen the results on other people in SW and its been brilliant. It just doesn't suit some bodies I guess!

Yeah it's worked brilliantly for me. I've lost a stone in 5 weeks. The extra easy plan is great. Love that pasta, rice, potatoes are all free (depending how you cook them) as I'm a massive carb addict.

I've lost 4.5 stone, DS around 7. At the minute I'm on meds that make me gain weight so it's a bit of a struggle to maintain but I'll persevere to lose any gain as soon as I can.

Yes, it absolutely works for me. When I stick to it... I'm on steroids at the moment and as I gained all I lost and then some due to illness I do find it hard at times, but I'll get there again. I'm looking at the bigger picture and taking it more slowly this time. Realistically I can't lose as fast while on steroids, but that's ok.
