Losing Baby Weight W/O your Gall Bladder...

Has anybody been successful in being able to shed their baby weight without a gallbladder?

I still had mine when I had my 2 DC, but I'm pregnant with 3rd and worrying that it'll be crazy hard to shed anything because I now don't have my gallbladder Sad

I had mine out two years ago and have been able to lose weight. Although initially gained because I started eating all the foods I couldn't eat before! I was recommended by a nutritionist to take pancreatic enzyme supplement before eating to help break down fats In a meal. The surgeon said not to bother but I have done it as to me it made sense my body might need help to now break down fats

I had mine out 3yrs ago and have lost nearly 2.5 stone since Jan and so has my mum who had hers out 20+ yrs ago.

The one thing I do find is that when I'm 100% sticking to plan I get weird gripey pains there but when I was eating rubbish on hols for 2 weeks it completely went! back on plan now and it's back - very weird and annoying.

Wow this is scaring me!!! I'm due to have my op this Friday to remove my gall bladder! I've struggled with my weight for years, I'm finally at a weight I'm happy with (kinda.. Could lose a bit more). I really dot want to start putting weight on, I've worked so hard and gone through so much to be a happy size 10.. Someone please give me reassurance I won't ballot and that probably lose weight if anything! Lol

I just had my gallbladder out a few weeks ago and have started skimming world this week. I spoke to my consultant about weight loss because I was already over weight and not shifting the baby weight as quickly as I'd like and he said the same as dinosnores - the main reason people tend to struggle with weight after their gallbladder is removed is that they can tolerate eating food that caused them pain previously. The bile that the gallbladder creates helps to break down and filter meat fats and toxins, bit not so much sugars etc.

While there is a lot on non-scientific websites about this, I'm afraid it isn't as easy as that.

Looking at the scientific studies on weight gain post-gall bladder removal, it seems to be far more to do with people being able to tolerate a fattier diet again, which caused them pain before. I'm afraid, that in the vast, vast majority of cases, it does just come down to how much people eat.

I had no idea there was a connection Hmm

I had mine out 5 years ago and my weight has steadily increased since then but I just assumed it was due to eating too much Grin

I had mine removed in 2010 & my weight has steadily risen and then ballooned when I was pregnant.

I joined SW January 1st and have now lost 3st 12 (I'm praying for 4st award this week!), which takes me to nearly 1.5 stone less than when I got pregnant. I still want to shift another stone, but to answer your question, yes it's totally possible Smile

I had my gallbladder out a year ago and am very overweight, but then have been on and off for all my adult life! Having said that, I'm trying to get fitter and lose weight at the moment and it's going OK - doesn't seem any harder than before I had my gallbladder out - it always seems tricky! For me, the difference right now is that I've upped my exercise - joined a gym and have started running, so maybe you'll need to factor in some exercise stuff along with eating less?

Croc, it's plagued me for a long time now (had mine out 2011), I never had a prob losing weight, always came off pretty easily and quickly before then.

Started Slimming World not so long ago, yet can't even shed a pound Sad

Mucho research online, apparently the gallbladder stores the bile to break down fats, however, w/o the gallbladder, the bile is instead stored in the liver, but does not work as efficiently as it would do in a gallbladder, and therefore more fat being stored Sad

I went to my GP about this, as I'd always been a slim, size 8-10, then after babies, probably 10-12, but since 2011, after surgery, I can't shift from a 14, and was crawling up to a 16. I'm fuming actually because consultant never mentioned any of this, but Google it and it's literally all over the Net Sad

What's the connection between not having a gallbladder and loosing weight? Genuinely interested as I had my gallbladder out two years ago and have never heard of a connection.
