I second this notion!

Actually I disagree.

Surely feminism and women's rights cut through every single topic on MN already? includes Dadsnet and all posters who claim not to be feminists-- who just haven't quite got a handle on the topic We don't need to be contained in a topic... let us be free!

I agree. Feminism seems to be on the upswing, we need a dedicated area to explore it further.

I do wonder, actually, whether it will have the effect of separating out the feminism topics such that people who don't already identify as feminist will just avoid the whole topic?

I too agree, and think this suggestion sits very well with the MN ethos.

I agree, and surely just because there is a feminism topic wont stop it also coming up in other threads?

I think it would be a good idea to have an area so we could get into some issues in more depth. It works for other topics e.g. politics, in the news.

However agree with the need to keep feminism/feminist issues alive on the other boards too.

You are going to need more sock puppets Dittany. Feel free to raid our odd sock bag.

Posting here to support the idea. But I'm still worried about the marginalisation thang.

I'm hoping a dedicated feminism topic might even discourage the trolling. No-one jumps on every baby led weaning thread (for example) to complain that there are more important things to discuss. A feminism topic area might normalise rather than marginalise the subject on mumsnet.

It would be a place to post ideas, information, book reviews, questions, events !

I love the idea of a rehabilitated troll sitting under a bridge, trying to get its soggy bra lit!

I'm in.
Waging a one-woman revolution in the south of Italy is exhausting....They've yet to burn their pinnies let alone their bras.

Yes but....won't we end up just patting each other on the back and calling each other 'sister' and not having anyone to argue with. That is a bit worrying.

That's probably going to happen I suppose Sprogger yes. We will have to police it. But sometimes the disinformation helps to define the truth anyway don't you think ?

I don't agree. I think you can start topics in AIBU or Politics or Gardening or the Tack Room or anywhere at all, about feminism. I don't think it needs a dedicated topic.

I'd like a Feminism area - sometimes threads dotted around the place aren't obvious e.g. the lady gaga one, if you're not interested in lady gaga particularly but like a good feminist love in, you could miss out!

Orm: Have you not noticed that feminists, er, disagree with each other quite a lot of the time?
