How long did you actually use your highchair for?

I've got a M&P Prima pappa highchair. I know some people love ti and some people hate it, I've had a lot of use out of it. But now I'm just finding it takes up too much room. Would I be best off buying a booster seat that straps to a chair, or splashing out on a tripp trapp?
Recommendations if you please. DD2 is 8mo now, DD1 still uses her booster seat at 3.

Also a big fan of the tripp trapp.

And there's a manufacturer in Germany (a friend of mine bought it back) that produces a tray table that fits around it - in beech! Good for baby - means less mess on those cushions, which I DO remember being irritating with DD1 one used it without (and our table is slightly too high for small baby to sit up at yet...)

We've got the Chicco chair, yes it's bulky, but it's excellent. Ds, 4, uses a booster, and dd, 2, is in the highchair. I'd have been happy for her to move to a booster as soon as she was old enough not to cause chaos at the table (ie about 15m) but in our kitchen we only have room for 3 comfortably at the table, so it works better to have dd eating off the highchair tray.

If there's room to use a Tripp Trapp at the table as a proper chair (and if your dd is safe not to grab everyhting and cause chaos), then it might be worth getting one, otherwise I'd get a smaller highchair if you absolutely can't bear what you've got until she's ready to sit at the table and then get a booster. \link{http://www.urchin.co.uk/acatalog/BabyFeeding.html\Urchin} do a highchair that folds very compactly.

Tripp trapp gets my vote too - got it when dd was around 7 months and it's great.

Actually gets easier to get them in and out when they're bigger - they know how to straighten their legs etc. DD is now 2 and the seat is still as high as it was when I first got it (footrest has been moved down) and can still get her in no probs (but not with shoes!). Am now thinking when to take off the baby set - but it means she stays in one place for a few mins so maybe not just yet!!

tripp trapp gets my vote as DS1 still uses his for everything and he is 4. we got another one for DS2 as we plan for them to use it for years

it also gives their feet support so they are not dangling on adult chairs

I got the second one over the web and the price included delivery, Back in Action I think was the cheapest when I looked

BUT some mums like having a separate tray and a different kind of chair as they don't like cleaning the table or risking the baby pawing at other stuff on the table

We had a chicco highchair thing given to us - blooming thing.
Oh it's sturdy yes.
It's bulky, a nightmare for cleaning and hidden pockets for stale food to mount up.
Not only that, it's got a tray which is too high and rest under my DS chin and it doesn't go under a table thanks to the carver style chair desigh which reminds me of a car seat.
So needles to say ordered another chair for us and the other one is going to mums for days when DS goes up there.
This is the chair we are getting and my son prefers this kind.

You can change the depth of the seat too - that might help a bit.

DS had just a booster chair as we had no room for a high chair - he was fine in it from 6 months onwards. In bigger house so got "proper" high chair for DD. She started in it at about 5 months, and we have just moved her into a booster chair and she loves it (Probably because they sit on chair at table at nursery - not in high chairs) - she's now approaching 17 months so it did us a year ! wish we hadn't bothered really have to find a new owner for it now!

Does that cheapy one that Coddy's linked to fit under a standard table? Looks quite tall ... I like the tripp trapps and have been wanting to hurl dd's high chair into the Thames for months now but the t t's are too expensive.

polkadot, I've got a tripp trapp as well and I know what you mean about it being a tight fit getting them in and out. I put the seat down one step and it made all the difference. I struggled for about a month before trying this. But certainly worked.

I've got a Tripp Trapp that I've just started using for DD who is 6 months. I find it a tight fit to get her in and out. Does it need adjusting and, if so, how?

We bought one of those cube high chairs from Mothercare when DS was a baby (5 years ago) ... I don't know if they still do them but it was the best thing we ever bought. He used it with the tray as a high chair until he was 18 months and then we took off the tray and he used it with the bar at the front (for safety) until he was 2.5. We then took that off and he used it sitting up at the table. We also took it apart to form a table and chair set for crafty stuff and play dough until he was just over 4.5 when DD was old enough to use it as a high chair.
So now we will go through the same thing with her until she is too big for it.
So all in all it will have had 10 years use when she is 5. Not bad for 50 quid.

I bought a folding one with an inner cushion so it could be used from 4/5 months which I did. It was about £70/80 but used it til my ds was about 2ish then again a similar time for my dd. It still gets used when she visits her grandparents(my inlaws) but tbh I should sell it now!! She was 3 in aug. Fancy my one?? £20?? Wink

Second Coddy on the Ikea one. We have a very nice £70 wooden one but 2 Ikea ones and they are great. Easy to transport to grandparents too.

Both in use by big 29 month old and 9 month old. Wooden one is used by visiting friends.

We're getting DS a Tripp Trapp for Christmas. Then the spotty monstrosity can go to Granny and Grandad's (the current highchair, not DH Shock)

I can't wait to have a highchair that just goes at the dining table and doesn't look out of place!

we bought a tripptrapp when dd was about 6 months old, she still uses it at 3 and I think we'll have to get another tt for the baby when it's ready!

We got a 1st years one that attaches to the chair from mothercare, its great, you could adjust the angle of the seat, when dd couldn't sit up very well, and now its just like a booster! and you can take it anywhere with you! (by car that is!) was about 35 quid.

I got fed up of the TT cushions TBH. And after a very brief period I stopped using them. I figured DD was only in the seat for a short time whilst eating whnen little, it really didn't matter. And she was fine. Much easier to just wipe down the wood.

You could always just put a litle cushion for your DS/DD to lean against if you wanted anyway.

Is it worth buying the Tripp Trap cushions? Is the seat comfortable without them?

Boought a really cheap Ikea one that sits under the table, DS still sits in it every meal, and he's 3.1.

None of his peers use a highchair, but I'm not telling Grin

I can wipe his hands before he gets down Grin

Yes - baby kit includes the bar that goes round front, with a leather strap attached that goes between legs. And it also includes a higher back - this is just swapped for the top back bar - which can be replaced later if you want.

DD has a Tripp Trapp. She's used it since being 5 months, with a baby kit. I took the baby kit off last winter when she was about 20 months. She's now 2y 8m and uses it at the table every meal, and for arts and crafts, and at the computer for playing her games too.
