its my ds b/d next week and he needs some new books
his big favourites so far have been-
10 little ladybirds
good nightsweet butterflies
usbourne touchy feely books

would like books with nice artwork and a good story that a 2 y o can follow
and maybe some with features like pop up books

if they are easy to find online( eg amazon)it would be a big help too

thanks I A

Builder for a day, Firefighter for a day... very interactive with things to open and pull and good pictures..

Generally I love most things that Doring Kingsley do - good quality books with great photos and great gimmicks such as My first ABC book.

We've just got "Chicken soup with rice" (Maurice Sendak) and ds can't get enough of it. I think it is supposed to teach the months for slightly older children but ds just loves the rhymes and the pictures and wants to hear it over and over again.

Ds is only just one, but here are the books we like (and that bear infinate repitition)

Click clack moo (first line-"Farmer Brown had a problem. His cows liked to type") Doreen Kanin
In the Night Kitchen, Where the Wild things are -Maurice Sendak.
All Dr Seuss but especially The Cat in the Hat comes back and Green Eggs and Ham
Jez Allborough - Duck in the Truck ("This is the duck driving home in the truck...this is the muck in which the truck is stuck...etc)

He likes also "Thats not my ...x" (tractor, teddy, bunny, fairy etc) but maybe at 2 will be too old.

Goodnight moon-ds sometimes gets the hint.

my nearly two year old ds who won't sit through most stories loves

brown bear brown bear what do you see?

it's all about colours and manages to keep his very limited attention,

he also likes finding the duck on any usborne books

His birthday is on saturday and I've bought him one called polar bear polar bear what do you hear, hope he likes that one.

I am looking forward to when he will have the ability to sit and listen to a proper story

he also loves the hungry caterpiller and anything that rhymes.

We love -
'We're going on a bear hunt'
'Guess how much I love you'
'Pumpkin Soup'
'Peace at last', and loads of the already mentioned! Sorry, can't remember all the authors names.

'Where the wild things are'...!! Great pictures, great story - our dd keeps asking for it since she got it for her second birthday (half a year ago). Also: big picture books - don't know where you can get them here, but they are published in Germany/Netherlands, have big plates with tons of little 'stories' happening. No text at all - you (or dd/ds) make them up.... Dd never tires of it.

Any Sandra Boynton books. I love them and my 2 and 5 year olds love them.

Thank you!

I've just picked the box up - here we are:

VHS PAL 0463563 'published' by Channel 5/Polygram

Issued in 1993 (could be obsolete?)
Copywright 1993 The Illuminated Film Company, Scholastic Productions inc.

Our copy cost £2.99 so I must have found it in a bargain bucket somewhere (Morrissons/Asda etc. ???)

Hope this helps. Good luck!

MofS!!!

We've got the story on tape and video!!!

When we were away last week dd was carrying the book around with her and she got served a gherkin on her plate, to which I said 'pickle' and pointed to it in the book. She ate the gherkin all up!!!

Ottakars bookshops have a good 4 for 3 offer on most of these toddler's books atm.

The Hairy McLary from Donaldson's Dairy series are great. Full of rhyming stories about dogs and cats. The sluglet loves them, especially Scarface Claw, the meanest tom in town. Every time his name is mentioned it is the done thing to howl terribly, hiss and swipe and imaginary claw around. Great fun.

My son's favourites at that age (and still enjoys them now!):

Dig Dig Digging - Margaret Mayo
Emergency - Margaret Mayo
The Amazing Machines series by Tony Milton and Ant Parker
(Dazzling Diggers, Terrific Trains, Flashing Fire Engines etc)
Think they're available from Amazon.

dottee - another yes to the "V hungry caterpillar" - fab book - have just ordered "the bad tempered ladybird" and we'll most likely get the others eventually too.

The only problem is the bit when the caterpillar eats all the food on Saturday, ds now regularly crawls round the floor clutching his tummy groaning 'ooh stomach ache...oh dear" - usually when we've got guests [roll eyes smiley]

My ddd (two next week) loves Ginger and I like the illustrations. www.thebookpeople.co.uk sell loads of new releases and classic books at about 1/2 the normal price. Their bookends bits and lucky dips are particularly good for bargains.

Dd and I were sharing 'The very hungry caterpillar' by Eric Carle book tonight. It isn't a pop up but we do the munching noises all through. It's alway been a favourite.

How about 'Jazzy in the Jungle' which is not really a story as such but lovely artwork and lift-up flaps. It's a hide-and-seek book where all the jungle animals search for baby Jazzy

Agree that 'Pants' is fantastic, and also 'Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly' but can't remember who it's by and is in in Ds's room where he is asleep so can't go and look.

"Pants" - is great - ds (2 today) knows the whole thing off by heart, but it's more of a rhyme than a story.
