dd is now starting to sit up and really needs to be out of the basket. my ex got the cot down from the loft of his house and the stupid man didnt give me the two drop side metal bars for it, then he sold the house! i phoned mothercare and they say that because the cot is more than two years old, the parts arent available and bars from other cots would be dangerous. im gutted..its in absolutely perfect condition and ive now got to throw it away and fork out again, all because of two little bars. does anyone know where i can get some sharpish? (its a mothercare juliet cot, seven years old) would really appreciate any help!

can you not get some thin metal rods from a diy store and use them? they will cut them to the correct length if you ask them

Agree with Tissy, don't bother with the drop side mechanism. If you ask me, better that they don't know the sides can go down and think they're trapped!

We had the same problem when ds2 came along. I contacted Mothercare - no joy- so contacted one of the more old fashioned baby shops ( the type 'established in ' way back when) and they were able to provide me with replacement metal bars at a fiver each. Apparently, lots of the bars are standard width with variations on the length! but suggest its still worthwhile checking that they'll fit. Failing that, what about the manufacturers. HTH

Nightowl, i would really like it if you took my cot, it is beautiful. I need to get rid of it too, it is by my sons new bed against the wall and getting in the way tbh. The only purpose it is serving is making me wonder if i'll ever have another baby which is a conversation i really shouldn't be having with myself. I bet you live in Australia, i can't remember, anyway if thats the case i will bring it over personally xx

Here in Germany the cots don't have drop down sides and we manage just fine so I would go with Tissy'S suggestion.

I think Tissy's idea is a good one, I haven't put the side down on DS's cot yet and he's been in it for months.

if you can manage without dropping the sides, why not get someone to screw the sides onto the cot for you? Then at least dd would have somewhere to sleep!

Can't believe the bars aren't standard. Have you spoken to the Customer Services Head Office. How long ago did they stop selling it and who supplied it ? They may still stock spares at the manufacturer.

Nightowl, if you really need a cot, have mine, otherwise i'm not actually sure what is stressing you out, just let your babba sleep with you for a bit, fuck all the silly rules
