Home blonde highlights - does anyone dabble??!!

Hi, I normally have my highlights done at the hairdressers at the rip-off cost of £51.00 - I'm thinking I'd like to try at home ( with the help of DH), and wondered if anyone can recommend a good kit to use, and whether I can use it on my existing salon highlights??????????? - I know theres a red conversation currently running, but I didn't want to steal the thread, it just reminded me that someone here might be able to help.

clairol does a highlighting dye which you are supposed to apply as a normal dye and it give natural highlight i can recomend clairol as a make because thats the only make i will use dont know about this highlight one though never tried it

What about being a model at a local salon for the apprentices to train on. They only charge a fraction of normal prices and are supervised the whole time, or even a mobile hairdresser might be cheaper than a shop but without the 'unknown' of doing it yourself!

Thanks for that - that's a really good idea, that's the sort of thing I have done now at the hairdressers, I'll give it a go when my roots are showing a bit more. I like the lighter bleach blonde highlights, but was worried about damaging the hair myself. Thanks again

I've used most and they're all pretty much the same. The only one to avoid is Jerome Russell as it's uneccessarily strong - but saying that, I've used it with no ill effects.

The easiest way to get natural looking highlights at home is to use a high-lift tint all over (a blond dye that says "no bleach" - can't remember any brands as I only get them when I come over to the UK) and then comb through bleach highlights (just stick some on a wide toothed comb and comb through). Does that help?
