Really need some buggy advice....

Hello there,

Hoping someone might be able to help/put me straight!

DSis 4 months old - and is a big baby. We have a pliko pramette, which we bought as part of a travel system. However, DS is rapidly outgrowing the pram mode. I have tried to put him in the pushchair but he hated it. Annoyingly it only faces forward, which I think was his problem. Also he is very refluxy, as was covered in sick without me seeing him!

So, am thinking of buying a rear facing pram, from ebay such as the bugaboo bee. My thinking is that it will also be good as a lightweight buggy as he gets older.

Am I mad for trading in the pliko and spending ££ on a bee, or is this reasonable, first time mother behaviour...??!

I don't have one myself, but think I have read on here that bees are smallish. I have a silver cross linear freeway which has great room, used with my dd til she was 1.6,(swapped to a lighter buggy) and planning to use with new baby in august. Loads of good rear facers have come along since I bought it though, and if I had spare money, I'd be thinking of swapping for maybe a britax vigour 4/ b smart, a mutsy of some kind or maybe a chicco for me. Not that I have been window shopping, mind!

The loola up is £147.50 on Boots website atm and gets some good reviews. You will get lots of points back as well if you have an advantage card.

I personally hated the bee, I'm tall and I felt as if I were pushing a dolly's pram. I seem to bethe only person who does no like them and everyone I know who has had one has loved them (I do in concept just not to use!)

If you don't want to spend so much there as several alternatives, if you have the car seat you can still use it as travel system on pliko switch, they go cheap (mine is on ebay for 100 quid) Bugaboos always hold their value so if you don't like it or you use it for a year you will still see a good resale amount.

There are other rear facing buggies than the Bee! I don't really like the bee either, it is really small and the seat is low down, near traffic fumes etc. I have a Loola Up and love it, but they get quite mixed reviews, so best to try one out if you can first. I still use it for DS who is 18 months though, sometimes.

Thank you everyone. My sway towards the Bee was based upon the fact it's so lightweight, and most of my friends with older children have said that it's handy to have a lightweight buggy as they get older...thought I'd be getting better value for money this way...?

Well the kind of lightweight buggy they mean is probably something more like this - infinitely more portable and lightweight than anything suitable for a 4 month old, and dirt cheap, so no need to save money by getting something now you plan on using until then, you might as well get something you like now, and then buy a cheap umbrella fold later, indeed if you even feel you need one.

The bee is amazing to handle, light to push, turns on a pin, easy to fold etc and best of all RF. You'll stil end up getting an umbrella fold buggy for the car/holidays. my first bee I got for dd when she was 16/17 months and being a tallie her head was almost hitting the canopy already. I love RF, just personal choice but I also loved my buggies when dd was bigger so ds is all set already!

i have the silver cross linear freeway it is lovely but very big and not the easiest to push, my mum had the loola and my DD only fit in it till she was 18months ish im now swaping mine for the mothercare xcursion, very nice to push, rear facing, quite reasable price and DD is 2.3 and still fits in it (buying 1 as DD2 is due in 7weeks) sister has a bee and she loves it for her DS 8months

if you get a pram off ebay veiw it first- ive been sent i a 'mint condition' pram and it was awful and mucky and not as described- it went back!

Not that i know much about much since I am 33+4 with our first but we got the Silver Cross Surf. It is really really light rear and front facing and hopefully should be able to use it unil DS starts walking.

the lightweight buggy your friends were talking about were probably the traditional umberella style pushchair that most people use from about 6 months upwards. But why do that when you can have a bee? They are a dream to push, fold down really small, rear face, hardly weigh anything. My only gripe was that they are too small for a larger toddler but at only 4 months thats not going to be a problem. I only had one for a short time (it was too small for DD) but I loved it because it folded in one piece rear facing (most rear facers only fold forward facing or with seat unit off) hardly took up any space in the boot, and the handle is adjustable which was lovely as I'm tall.
