Pushchairs

bugaboo - when can i use the situp bit rather than the carrycot?

all the literature says to not use the pushchair seat bit until 6 months, but my 3 month old son is big and strong and a) isn't going to fit in the carrycot for another 3 months and b)would appear to be much happier when he is able to sit up and look around. he's rarely in his pram for more than an hour at a stretch.

has anyone started using the chair bit before 6 months?

thanks

I put my DS in the seat of the pushchair, reclined at about 45 degrees from 4 months ish. He didn't sit up unaided until 9.5 months so I would have been waiting a long time!

If his head is slumping down sideways and he looks uncomfortable, lie it down more/consider going back to the carrycot.

thanks all,

see i think he has got reasonable head control, although being my first i can't be sure, but it sems good, he's been holding his head up almost from birth and now holds it up and looks around all the time, even when he's in his sling.

perhpas i'll give it a couple of weeks and do as you have giddykipper - thanks again

I moved DS over when he was 3 months. I didn't sit him bolt upright, just on the first recline. He was so much happier.

I think you NEED to change when they start sitting up of their own accord, as it is not safe to have them in the carrycot. If they are too big I guess you would also need to swap them over, but they would have to be a very big baby to literally outgrow the carrycot.
