2.6 yr & newborn can’t drive ...uppababy?

Hello mumsnetters do I need a double? I was thinking Of getting a second hand uppababy vista double for when my second dc is born in march my eldest will be 2.6 we walk/bus everywhere as I don’t drive. Furthest playgroup is a 30 minute walk (half toddler walking half in the pram) he’s a good walker but tires after 15 minutes and likes to sit he’s also still napping for two hours at 12. I’m really unsure what to do as they’re quite expensive however I do like that it converts into a single.....help!

I’ve had the Uppababy for just over 5 years and I highly recommend it, when my second child was due I just purchased the Uppababy buggy board (quite expensive around £70) but very solid much better than the other brands my friends had. Still use it for my 4.5 year old at theme parks.

I have a 2.5yr age gap and found a seated buggy board to be a lifesaver. I’m in London so a double would be unusable really. I just used a carrier when the oldest wanted to go in the pushchair.

Absolutely love our vista, it's had 15 months of hard usage (no car, out most days) and with a good clean it would be pretty much good as new! Only used with one baby, but have used the double adapters when we took it to a festival so little one had her car seat as well as her pushchair. It copes with being loaded up completely and as others have said the basket is probably the biggest on the market

You could use a buggy board and baby goes in the pram/toddler walks or on the buggy board. Then when he's tired, toddler goes in the pram and baby goes in the sling. Only works when baby is also in the seat though I suppose.

Thank you everyone! Brilliant responses - we went to mothercare to look at the doubles I loved the silver cross but was very shocked at the icandy orange I felt it’d fall apart after a couple of months heavy usage! It’s so hard if he was a couple of months older almost three we wouldn’t bother as I think we could skip doubling! Thanks again xx

I love my UppaBaby Vista. I've had mine for seven years and it's still going strong! Like you, we walk a lot, and it's perfect for two kids, and doing a shop (the basket is huge). I live in a snowy, cold place and it is very durable and moves very smoothly over any surface. My youngest is now 3, and it's days are numbered. I would buy one again tomorrow without hesitation.

I have an Uppababy Vista- would totally recommend it- ability to double up, the cot is overnight rates, the shopping basket is huge. Made well and very sturdy

I have a 21mo gap but DD is now 2.7 and DS 11 mo. I do drive but still use my Vista a lot more than I thought I would! We had it as a single for DD so just had to buy the extras when DS arrived but I definitely think it was worth it.

How heavy is your DS? They're only allowed in the bottom seat up to 35lb so he may need to go on the upper seat (50lb limit) and baby on the lower seat. Other than that issue, I think it would be a great pram for you. It's not light, especially with 2, but I actually find it easier to push than my Maclaren with just one in it.

firstly, congrats on the 2hr naps!!!!

I've been researching pushchairs and the uppababy ones do look good, pretty sure the carry cot is even overnight-rated. With the vista it's a bit annoying

Just seen an iCandy double when I was out before and it was good that they was still a fair amount of space in the shopping basket when the carseat (Maxi Cosi, so must have had adaptors) was in use at same time as toddler seat.

Make sure you enquire about the length of the straps as I've had a nightmare with this (see post above). Wish I'd bought an Uppababy Cruz now :-(
