baby is slumped in her buggy - help please

Hi, I'm having a major problem with my 13 month old dd's buggy, I have the silver cross pop pushchair (its the only stroller I have for her) but no matter how I adjust the straps & footrest, she just slumps to the side of the seat and looks very uncomfortable. I even took the pushchair back to the shop but they wouldn't refund me as it wasn't 'faulty' :(

I think it must hurt her back as she cries when in it for a while. I don't have much cash to throw at another buggy, so wondered what you would recommend?? Possibly something that has a deeper seat, as I think that's what the problem is. Thanks x

My DD slumps in her britax one too. I've had to adjust the straps regularly.

I agree it sounds like you're experiencing a medical emergency - could you please ask MNHQ to change it to something less likely to panic us like "advice on buggy for 1yo" rather than something that sounds like "my child is unconscious and I have no idea what to do"

Unless your DD actually has some kind of medical issue, I would say that your best course is to do nothing. she will be more comfortable if she uses her back muscles a bit to sit up a bit straighter. She is uncomfortable because she is choosing to slump. trying to enforce straightness with straps isn't going to work. Perhaps trying to get her to engage more with the world around will help her to sit up a bit?

She shouldn't be using her back muscles to sit up straight - she should be using her core muscles. It sounds like the shape of the stroller is pushing her into an uncomfortable position. Google Esther Gokhale for a really great explanation of how babies naturally sit in perfect posture and most modern pushchairs, car seats etc don't support this.

We have the pop too and dd also slumps down. I sit her up again and again and she slumps down again.

I hate the pop and dd isn't a fan either. We took it on holiday recently and dd was happy enough sitting in it but she rarely napped - I think she fell asleep in it once in 6 days and she was in it a lot (she is 9 months)

I want a new pram but not sure it is exactly economical now

Try getting a wool fleece. I had to get a pretty basic buggy when my DD was pretty small, so I could fit it in my car with a dog as well and I found a £16 fleece on Ebay that really helped. It made it more comfortable and also padded it out a bit so that she wasn't in a poor position.

Scary title too I thought especially with the weather being soo Hot! Mine used to slump for a some time but then grow out of it. And they sit up properly now in the buggy being very nosey.

Pop buggy was the worst buggy I have ever used. No redeeming features.

Is the recline mechanism on the Pop a strap and toggle affair? My friend has always bought cheap strollers (three of them for her two children but of a false economy really when one Maclaren would easily have lasted her) and they all reclined by releasing the toggle on a strap - her boys always looked like they were slouching down and I've always thought that was not good for their backs.

I've always had a Maclaren Quest or Techno XT with a nice solid backrest. But I appreciate that they are not cheap. Maybe try looking for a decent second hand one?

I didn't think emergency when I read the title! But I also have a slump-inducing stroller. I don't think there is a cure, I think it is bad design of the backrest not being solid and forming a hammock as soon as dd sits into it. Have pondered reinforcing back somehow. Mine is the mamas and papas kato. The kato 2 has a redesigned back I believe for the same reason.
2nd hand different stroller? Look forward to being out of buggy? I put footrest up and dd seems to make herself comfy somehow

We came across the Wedge by Eyaslondon - helped my little one sit fully upright in the pram and not be slumped in it. Also helps with their posture development for later. think it is www.eyaslondon.com
