side by side double for toddler and baby

Hello all, you all gave me invaluable advice when I was expect dc1 so I'm back for some more advice now dc2 is on the way!

Baby2 is due in march. DC1 will be 21 months when new baby arrives. He is already a confident walker but think that we'll still need a buggy for longer walks, tired after nursery etc...

What are the options? I think that I want a side by side one - maybe mountain buggy? But then think P&T type one is much more practical?

Budget/ lower cost is key. Having invested rather heavily in first pram and then pushchair - what are the best options for a second hand double?

I have the out and about nipper and its the best buggy ive ever had. I can fit it in my sisters car (its a clio) and it fits through most doors. I love mine it is fantastic to push.

Tarka- only can answer for city mini but no issue with age gap and steering or only having one in. I usually opt for double over the single as both can hop in and out when they want and I often use the spare seat to carry the picnic etc if the older ones happy to walk.

I chose side by side as didn't like the thought of one with an obstructed view. Also the eldest was quite tall and he looked cramped in the tandem, wasn't sure how long he'd fit.

Vache - I don't think either's best I'm afraid it's just a matter of personal priorities, I found going to the store with ds1 and trying them all out really useful as it cleared up which I wanted. I then just waited for one to pop up second hand.

Gah...I don't know what to do. i like the idea of side by side more but think maybe tandem is more practical - storage, fits in car boot, lopsidedness.

side by side vs tamden/inline...what's best!?

Ooh I hadn't thought about getting a side by side rather than a tandem. Aren't they difficult to steer if there is a big age gap/only one seat in use?

Mine is I'm afraid.
Very easy to fold and place in boot of the car/ calapse on bus, fits in a focus boot, but I would'nt want to carry it folded any distance

Are side by sides massive to cart about?

I bought a second hand city mini double for 100. Love it! Easy to push, fits through doorways turns easily. Still easy to push with a 4 and 2 year old. ( Not that ds1 needs a pram but after a long day out he'll want a rest) Both tall and both fit in it, not cramped. Used it with a carry cot attached when ds2 was newborn, ds1 was 24 months.
