Problem with my Mutsy chassis - I haven't even had the baby yet!

Hi folks,

I decided on a Mutsy 4Rider after lots of research and was delighted to find an almost new bundle on ebay, for which I was the winning bidder. This is my first baby (due beginning of Feb) and my first purchase. I had lots of advice, the general consensus being to buy second hand at first and after a few months splash out on something the baby will be in for a while.

I came home last night and my husband had done the 2 hour round trip to collect it and set it up proudly in the house for me. It looks in great condition but the chassis won't collapse! I have the manual and have looked up a demo on youtube and it looks like you just hold the button on the handle while pulling up the safety handle on the left hand side. Nothing is happening and the only way I can get it to collapse is to push down the metal catches on the insides of the frame which hold the basket into place. I can't see that this is going to be ideal with a bambino in tow and is not the one-handed collapse I'd hoped for!

Have I bought a dud or am I missing a trick? Please can someone share their experience?

When you push the handlebar down, push it in the angle of the frame towards the front wheels, not vertically.

I was too gentle at first as I was terrified of breaking it - but it's indestructible! You do have to be quite heavy-handed.

I think I was being too gentle.

Just threw myself on it while shaking it violently and it collapsed. I'm sure this will cause hours of entertainment for my neighbours and anyone who happens to be in car park at the same time as me. Must remember to remove the baby first.

I love it when it's up though, so hissy fit averted - it was a bargain after all!

I've got a Mutsy 4Rider and the collapse mechanism is very stiff (it's had 18 months of use now and is still stiff).

It isn't a one hand collapse and it's never going to be, you definitely need 2 hands and possibly a foot on the frame to collapse it. I have to jiggle it a bit too - dunno if some WD 40 would help??

If you want a one hand collapse you need either a Babyjogger or a Petite Star Zia when your baby is a bit older.

i have had a look, i have only owned the urban rider but the fold looks the same, i could never get the nak of folding it, where as dp did it everytime, i think you have to do both steps at the same time, now its been a few years but don't you push in lever on handle and push down on handle while at the same time pulliing up on the black slidy side thing tiggy owned one she will be along soon as well, but there is a nak to it.
