BJCM compact carrycot- as ridiculously small as it looks to my eye?

I'm a first time mum so really relying on you experienced mums out there to help me with this one...

...I can't get hands on BJCM bassinet as it has been discountinued. I can easily buy a compact carrycot, but, it just looks so small to me. How long would a baby last in the carrycot in your opinion? If had a big baby or even a long baby it may last a matter of weeks? Shock

Am I being silly? Keep thinking they wouldn't have manufactured it if it wasn't useful but it looks so small in comparison to other carrycots.

Winter baby so will want to use a carrycot for first few months at least.

Thanks all for any opinions. Smile

Oops - just seen that you have it already! Well done you. Enjoy it and have an easy birth.

Just wanted to add my little piece!

Also wanted the Deluxe Carrycot given that it's a winter baby. Found that very few places had it available. PreciousLittleOne had it showing as 'in-stock'. I then got an e-mail saying that unfortunately there was a manufacturers delay. I wrote to cancel my order and in the meantime ordered it from pushchairs.co.uk. Lo and behold....on Friday my husband gets two identical boxes delivered at work - 1 from pushchairs.co.uk and 1 from preciouslittleone!! And I get an e-mail from PreciousLittleOne saying that the stock came in sooner than anticipated.

No idea if you're in London, but if it's more convenient for you, you can come buy it off me for what it cost me before I arrange the return of it. If not, I shall be returning the order from PreciousLittleOne.

It's definitely worth phoning places rather than just trusting the stock levels showing online

I know I want the versa too but can't justify changing it next year.

I had the mounting bracket come with mine but have brought the car seat adaptor as it was such a faff to use the bracket.

Car seat adaptors to fix it. That's what all the salespeople kept telling me, usually people get the BJCM with their second child and wish they'd got it with their first!

Thanks for the link, How much do I wish the versa was out now...that whole forward facing, parent facing thing. Took me ages to decide I was okay with forward facing!

You using the mounting bracket to fix carrycot or car seat adaptors? See bestbuggy.co.uk for pics.

I have already been using bjcm for an older child. Just can't wait for newborn in it!

Ideal glad you got one. I can't wait for baby to arrive so I can use it!

Waiting to get a raincover as kooltrade said new design should fit carrycot too.

Wee update:

I got a phonecall from a pram shop that I spoke to in August who said they were getting in the bassinet 'asap'- they just came in this week (!) so I managed to get in and buy it.

For everyone's info, there is actually very little difference in the sizes of compact to bassinet but the bassinet is sturdier in feel and roomier looking because of the hard hood and frame so for winter baby went for that one.

Thanks for all the replies. Smile

Often they do say in stock but when you call they aren't- which is beyond annoying.

I'll try kooltrade.

Another BJCM buyer on my antenatal thread 'bought' it online as it was 'in stock' but then received an email afterwards to say it will arrive in November....we're on the November thread!

Grrrrr.

Phone Kooltrade up direct and ask a) if they have any there b) if they know who may have stock failing that c) when they are getting more bassinets. You can also ask them the compact carrycot dimensions whilst you are on the phone too :)

It does look wee.
Try eBay for the discontinued one, or contact the importers.
My DS grew out of his carrycot - Quinny Dreami - in about 4 months, he was a winter baby too.
