Airing cupboard 'room'

I have a 2 x 1.5 m room with a floor to ceiling cottage window on one wall and too narrow a recess on the opposite wall. I only have 1 wall therefore for airing cupboard shelves. This wall also has a radiator and I'm trying to incorporate some hanging space to air clothes/hang ironed clothes.

What do I use to make my shelving? I always see cheaper, lighter wood for airing cupboards, then on Pinterest I see different, nicer looking materials being used.

Basically I need to get some shelves built for laundry storage. What's the best stuff to buy?!

OP's room is 2x1.5m... not sure she'd be wanting to iron in there!

My one has ply shelves which are perforated. They were already there when I moved in. My last one had slatted shelves.

Oooo forgot the ironing board - what about one of those wall mounted fold away ones?

Traditional airing cupboards have slatted shelves so the warm air rises up through the bottom of the laundry as well as around the pile of items.
Cedar might be a good material to use as it's said to be moth repellent.
My ideal laundry station would have space for an ironing board to remain permanently set up so if you need to iron something then all you need to do is switch the iron on and go.

Jealous!!!! Whatever you do go for, make sure it’s as smooth as possible. No snagging on clothes. Easily wiped. I’m day dreaming - but I think I would go for some sort of ceiling hanging drying system. - I’m thinking for sheets etc, and for hanging up shirts on coat hangers.
I would love a laundry station too, with a shelf over the washing machine, for bottles, and a machine which would be raised up on a plinth for easier loading/filter cleaning.
Also love the idea of various bins marked up as delicates/whites etc and a Belfast sink for hand washing those special bits. The final touch for me would be a large space to be able to block out my shawls … happy day dreams.

I just set up a laundry wall using IKEA Boaxel. It is a white, very flexible so you can create your own design and adapt it to suit if your needs change.

I have 2 hanging rails, shelves for laundry baskets, shelves for folded clean laundry, drying racks, and space for my dehumidifier to blow the damp laundry from below.

I also looked at ClosetMaid, as I have some of these shelves elsewhere, but IKEA was much better value.
