Where in the UK is a good bet to buy a property in the next 12-18 months and not have it tank massively in value? Budget £1.8million

For that budget youre not going to make loads. That market inflates a lot slower than £150k stuff. I don’t think that the market will crash in 18 months but I think it will get pretty stagnant.
Would you need to sell it in 18 months. If so I’d pop it in the bank and get some interest on it. The fees associated with buying and selling will eat into profit

Bath and Oxford have great rental markets, high yields, if I were you I'd buy a few properties with your budget to spread investment.

If it's purely for investment then buying one £1.8m property is a big risk imo.

I'd be far more inclined to pick two areas and buy 5 or 6 x £100k properties in each area, then do them up and rent or sell them.

Thank you. The money is inheritance for 6 of us and we won’t need it in the next couple of years.

The person who left us the money was very family oriented and as such so are all of us. They also used to go on all the time about how important a home is so we would like to honour that in some way. We’re trying to work out what to do, we have different ideas but what we do agree on is pooling the inheritance together.

Buy a property that can double up as an investment plus a big family home for multi parents that will be the family “get together” house.
Buy properties as investments only.
Or stocks and shares.

I read recently Kingston or similar was a good market for holding value with the impending economic crisis. However I think it's tricky with such a high amount.

Can I ask how they avoided IHT?

One thing I would be cautious of is that any profit will incur CGT won't it? And I think we may see changes to that tax.

Co-owning a property with 5 others sounds like a recipe for family breakup. Invest separately. When you want to meet - Airbnb or rent.
