Solid Shutters

I would like to get some solid interior shutters for my windows.
Just after thoughts from those who have them and also recommendations for installation.

I’ve got original panelled interior shutters in my house and as well as looking lovely they’re brilliant for insulation in winter and summer. The house is south facing so the heat has been brutal these past few days but the shutters have kept the front rooms at a balmy 21when it’s been 38C outside. They also have the added advantage of shielding carpets and furniture from being sun-bleached. The front facing shutters are full height (around 2 metres) but on the side windows they’re 3/4 ‘privacy’ shutters which prevent the (non-existent) neighbours from seeing in but allow daylight into the rooms. My favourites are the ‘highway man’s’ shutters in some of the small utility rooms (kitchen,pantry etc). They pull up from the casing like a car(carriage?) window. The original bolts locks are fearsome!

You seem to like them.
We’re not overlooked (currently have nothing) but I would like them for the reasons you state and occasionally I just feel like shutting the world outside

i’m thinking of them
to reduce road noise,
we have double glazing but in the summer it’s still a bit noisy. do they help that? any recommendations for fitters?

We used ShutterLab for our Shutters and are extremely happy with the service and product. We have definitely noticed a difference in noise and also heat/cold from outside.

I love mine. I also bought them for my DD's new house. I used Joe's Shutters as they make them in Essex, joes.co.uk. Highly recommended.

Out of interest OP why solid and not plantation? with plantation you have the option of opening or closing the slats whereas solid has no options? Not trying to persuade you, just wondering.

Personally, I find the plantation shutters quite bulky.

We’re not overlooked so I can’t imagine ever wanting to have them closed with slats open. Mostly they will be folded back but occasionally eg: bad weather, I’m up in the night or just want to shut the world out. Then a solid shutter would be perfect 😊

We had these installed about 5 years ago by a one man band trading as ecoboxsashes. Whilst the product is great, actual procurement was a very difficult process. Cost about £1300.

Do you have deep internal reveals around your windows? If your house isn’t like this (generally mainly Georgian properties) then won’t they be very restrictive in terms of what else you can have at the windows?

I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question.
My house isn’t Georgian and doesn’t have big reveals but I don’t want anything else at the windows.

I am struggling with my front windows at the moment because they are noisy and a bit cold. They have perfect fit blinds on at the moment.

I have seen some images on the web of shutters like doors that attach to batons that run vertically down the side of the window alcove and would open to the inside like a small pair of doors that can be secured against the wall. I would like to investigate the potential of these.

Does anyone know a) what they are called and b) who makes them ?
