How would you furnish this living room?

Have had advice previously re kitchen so thought this was the best place to come for some ideas as we are struggling to come up with anything!

Living room is 6m by 3.5m with windows at each end. Fireplace in the middle of one of the long walls and door is on the other long wall (but not centere).

What shape / size of sofa(s) and where?
Where would you put TV?

We're a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. No toy storage required. I would like some tables for putting cups on etc but probably avoid a large coffee table in the middle of the room.

I'd do tv above fire place and sofa opposite.

Thank you all the suggestions are really helpful.

Interesting the suggestions to have sofas pulled away from walls as we've only ever had sofas pushed up against walls!

Ooh, sorry for triple post but also, if you put up a Christmas tree then think about where that would go too. My parents like having the sofa on the right pulled forward as it gives them storage space behind throughout the year and then the tree goes up there in December.

Oh wait! I can mark up on my phone! Unlabelled circles are side tables, unlabelled squares are cupboards.

That’s the set up in my parents living room. They have one sofa to the left of the door up against the wall (on the ‘south’ wall as you’ve drawn it), TV in the ‘north west’ corner as drawn. A second sofa level with the east side of the fireplace (so parallel to the east wall but pulled forward) and storage behind this.

Here, TV is the double lines in the corner. Then 2 sofas with side tables (little circles) nearby for mugs. There would be space for a desk or storage unit in the corner nearest the door if needed.

I was going to say you need to figure out where the TV is going! I hate TVs above the fireplace as they are always way too high. Ideally the center of the tv should be level with or slightly below your eyeline, it's uncomfortable to look up at it a long way.

We have not quite the same layout but a similar problem. We settled for the tv on the wall next to the door (the fireplace is on the next wall ie 90 degrees away) and a central L shaped couch with one side facing the tv and the other part facing the fireplace.

@LizzieMacQueen yes it is (sorry should have said that). I would be happy but DP thinks it's too risky especially as we have the wood burning stove on lots in winter.

Is this your main telly watching room and how do you feel about a TV mounted on the wall above your fireplace?

Picture looks a bit dark but hopefully it will be OK zoomed in :)
