How do I paint a stairwell without hiring a special stairway ladder....

I have about a metre and a half that I cant reach and it will take merely minutes to paint and I begrudge having to hire one of those special ladders for the day. Because of cutting into the corners I cant just use an extendable roller and even me on dh shoulders is not tall enough. Any ideas...

What everyone else has said. Is easier if walls & ceiling the same colour though. Must do my stairs & landing again soon...

I have just seen a product on one of those tv shopping channels when I was channel hopping- it's called a slide n glide £29.99 and its just a paint pad with an extension pole and different pads for corners, cutting in etc. I was just thinking that actually a paint pad would make the high bits easier. It was on www.tvshopping247.com. I'm now thinking of getting it or something like it for my hall.It might work.

This is tricky. I managed my very high hallway by using an extendable roller and then taping a paint brush to a long stick for the cutting in. It took a while but it wasn't too bad a job as I was using a light colour and the previous colour was light so it wasn't too obvious where I'd been a bit messy. You need a steady hand.

Paintbrush gaffer taped to a stick

broom handle with a roller securely taped along side it.
and maybe a paint brush stuck to broom handle afterwards for corners

I see you say you can't do it with an extendable roller, but I did mine with a narrow paintbrush taped to an extension pole and did a neat job of it tho' I say so myself . Ours is a gallery landing so it just involved walking along the landing v v slowly with the paintbrush between the top of the wall and the ceiling, the repeated it with the roller on the extension pole.
