Concerned about 11 year old son

My 11 year old has just started secondary school, and initially seemed to settle really well after a turbulent few years at primary where his confidence was badly knocked due to persistent bullying. He suffered panic attacks as a result of this and has had a course of CBT which seemed to help. For the last couple of weeks he has been withdrawn and tearful, he said he hasn't made many friends at school and is finding it hard to fit in. I saw an article on 'This Morning' today, a 17 year old had killed himself after years of bullying and his mum was on talking the years and days leading up to his death, so many of the things she said were familiar. Am I worrying unduly or has anyone else experienced this with a sensitive pre-teen boy?

You're doing the right things. School will most likely advise a trip to GP as well as looking at how they can support him. Does he do any clubs or groups outside of school?

Thank you for replying, I called the school earlier and am waiting on someone getting back to me, and haven't contacted the doctor yet, but in touch with a lovely lady from our local council who deals with these issues. I'm being proactive, feel so helpless otherwise. x

You are right to be worried, but the This Morning article is an extreme case.

Have you spoken to the school and your GP?
