Im 39 weeks pregnant and have just developed a pile. Ive never had any before but I have been on iron suppliments which has made me a bit constipated and ive read piles can be a symptom.

Sorry for TMI but its on the outside, doesnt go back in and its rather large. I wouldnt say its painful but its really uncomfortable and itchy. Honestly im really upset ive got it the last weeks are uncomfortable enough and labour is traumatic so to have to contend with this now too is really upsetting Sad anyone have any advice and remedies to help get rid of it?

Yea, I did after I gave birth. My husband got some cream from the pharmacy (anusol?) and I popped it on and it was fine after a few days!

I'm 24 weeks snd have got 3 at the same time! I feel miserable! All I can say is keep using creams (Anusol) and avoid long periods of sitting down

I had awful piles with both my pregnancies. Anusol cream is very good but if they’re outside and painful I also found using some Vaseline on them and then pushing them gently back inside helps.

@PFin If it is causing you pain and then ring your GP and they will prescribe a lotion for it that has a local anaesthetic in.

Mine turned up on my due date and like you, I was so upset and concerned. Well I went into labour the next day so baby was obviously pushing right down.

I suffered really badly in first pregnancy. I've kept them under control during my second. I've found the following the most useful:

  • warm baths sooth itching. This is the best treatment for me
  • be very gentle when wiping. Use moist toilet tissue and/or bath or shower to clean after a bowel movement
  • raise feet on a step when going for a poo
  • coconut oil works better for me than topical creams
  • drink lots of warm water, eat lots of fruit and high fibre foods to keep stools soft (lentils, beans etc)

Some people use ice but I've never found that helpful!

Yes i have 3 now at 30 weeks and it’s miserable :( what I’ve been doing which has helped improve them:

  • plenty of water
  • germoloids cream applied regularly
  • moist toilet wipes
  • squatty potty
  • warm baths with some Epsom salts thrown in.

I have an awful one (34 weeks) and it is horrendous, I feel your pain!! I use anusol cream and lactulose. Also a warm Epsom salts bath helps, and not sitting down for too long. Also, use wet wipes instead of tissue and vaseline soothes irritated area if you do use tissue. Drink.plenty of water and eat lots of fibre to loosen things up.

I'm on iron supplements too and think they definitely don't help!! Good luck xx

Thank you everyone. Had midwife this morning and she suggested anusol so went with that for now. It has defo helped with the itch and any excuse to lie and soak in the bath is ok with me lol! They truely are awful things and the thought of pushing out a baby while suffering with them im really dreading and they will probably be worse after.

I suffered horribly (oh, the itch) during my third trimester last pregnancy (not looking forward to what's likely to come this time, currently only in my second trimester)!

After unsuccessfully trying Anusol, I was prescribed Sheriproct cream, which is a combination of steroid and anaesthetic, it gave me much needed relief and I'd highly recommend it!

@Poppins2016.. The anusol have defo relieved the itch for me thank god, i'l probably have to see what shape im in after labour and maybe get something stronger from doctor. @ame88 luckily pregnancy related ones usually tend to clear up and arnt a persistant problem but it just sucks your already out of sorts and uncomfy then to get piles on top of it is just cruel Angry

It's typical to have 3. They tend to come in 3s

Just a bit of hope - once I gave birth that completely got rid of the issue - so don't despair that you're stuck with it!

And as an aside... prunes are great for relieving constipation. I've got horrible pregnancy related constipation but prunes make a real difference when I remember to est them! Also great for making sure the post-birth poo is easy... just don't eat too many if you're breastfeeding because the laxative effect does get through to baby if you get carried away and snack on too many like I did (experience talking)! 🤣

I've scared myself that because I've got them this early (24 weeks) am I going to be more susceptible to a big tear during birth?

Anusol isna dream come true. I suffered late stage of pregnancy and only now I have recovered and baby is 4 months old tomorrow.

I also would only go for a poo once a week, it was that bad and unbelievably painful. I felt like I had glass in my bottom. It would take me up to an hour to go. And that involved hunched over the bath in agony to get the courage to go.
So get anusol right away. Its brilliant. And a laxative drink will help too but it did make my baby gone lot as well as I was breastfeeding

Ring your gp. They can give you creams and suppositories with anaesthetic and steroids which will make them shrink loads quicker than anusol
