What to get from IKEA for baby?

Hi all. I found an old thread here on the topic but wondered if anyone has more up to date views on what to order from IKEA for newborns? I mostly need the waterproof mattress covers and storage solutions (thinking those hanging storages with cubicles for the wardrobe for babies clothes!). Anything else comes to mind?

You won't need it initially, but their high chair is brilliant and so much more affordable than alternatives.

We actually got given a cot! And yes I heard the best reviews of their high chair! Thanks ladies. If anything else comes to mind let me know 😉

I don't know if they still do them but I liked the changing mats. They had a cover on them that zipped off to be washed and there was two in the pack. They were a nice cosy material and not cold plastic for putting dd on (precious first born worries 😂)

We bought their kids plastic bowls/plates/cutlery for weaning. Decent sized so lasted past toddlerdom and also worked as picnic plates for adults too

Omg the plastic cutlery we still use mainly the plates altho I know not newborn but for the future! High chair a must cheap and versatile! Maybe some soft toys for the nursery my little one still has a soft toy dog 8 years on washes well too!

We used their play mat a lot. Washed well and dried quickly too.

We got the kallax (i think) units with multiple box/drawer options and use them for storage... Nappies, toiletries, book shelf all in one place.

Decided against high chair as can't fold away.

Use their water beakers, bowls and plates, love them. Also random toys. Missing ikea trips and the coffee refills!

I know you were more after furniture suggestions but my DD adores the Mula Stacking cups from IKEA, they're only £2.75 as well

Plastic plates/bowls/cups/cutlery.

Spent a fortune over 2 years on fancy stuff. The cheap ikea stuff is the best

From IKEA we've got cutlery/plates/cups, some soft toys, stacking cups, high chair, basic changing table, toddler-sized wardrobe, footstool. Obviously some of that you won't need until later on, we didn't really use the footstool until we started toilet training her when she was 26m.

Not for a newborn, but the little white rocking chair and the play tunnel are great.

We're going in a few weeks time and getting a cot, sheets and mattress for it, chest of drawers, storage divider things for the drawers and anything else that catches my eye ;) We were going to get a changing unit too but are short on space so have got a universal cot top changing station instead.

A very cheap packet of 20 face clothes in the baby section. Get two!

Lots of fab recommendations - added a lot to my list! Now issue will be waiting for it to ship - delivery takes 3 weeks to arrive?! At least it's not needed in a while.

And yes to the previous poster, I do miss the IKEA food court! Nothing beats their Swedish meatballs and coffee refills 😉 we also used to buy a dill mustard in their food section which is amazing with smoked salmon!

Flannels. They have a 10 pack of white flannels with different coloured hanging loops on the corners. Absolutely invaluable.

Not sure if they still do them but we have had some lovely wooden toys from IKEA before now, stacking things and a pull along lorry. Really nice! Am currently pregnant and will def do a little trip to IKEA for some bits, love it!

The bath toys! They do a set with a yellow cup, an orange cup with holes in, and a little blue and white boat. Used to cost about £3. It is the most played with set of bath toys in our house, has seen everything else off and can be put in the dishwasher or washed in the sink if it looks a bit grimy.

For larger babies/toddlers, they also do the best sippy cups (white with green lid), as in you can easily remove the lid without nearly doing yourself an injury as per the Tommes Tippee ones. Also second recommendations for Kallax, plastic plates/bowls and flannels.

The high chair is brilliant but has quite wide legs so not the best option if you’re very tight on space.

The hanging fabric cube things are ideal for baby clothes as you say 👍 then the toys are lovely too. The high chair is great as others have said as long as it fits where you want to keep it.
Yes yes to the sippy cups too (white with green lid) as PP have said, much less frustrating than wrestling with Tommee and the same amount of spillage potential!

We've got an Ikea sleeping bag and it's my favourite, really soft, feels thick and cuddly. Washed really well and is now on our third child. DD asleep in it now on me.

Sounds like I'll need to place a second order when we start weaning for the high chair and all the eating things like the cups / bowls etc!

Sleeping bags - Wow! Didn't even know IKEA did this. But checking their website I can't tell what tog rating they are? Any ideas? We are missing some 2.5 tog ones and possibly some 0.5 (we have several 1 tog!)

Any ideas on what to use to store a small amount of toys somewhere in the lounge as that's where we will have baby the most at start?

Oh ignore my comment on the tog rating! I dug into the manual of instructions and it states that their tog ratings for all bags is 1. Shame! Would have loved a 2.5 one for winter.
