Maternity wear recommendations?

Hi everyone! I’m 13 weeks and getting to the stage where I’m going to have to start thinking about some roomier clothes soon. Does anybody have any recommendations for brands where I can find stylish but practical maternity wear? Everything I’ve found online has been a bit dowdy so far. Not looking for anything too fancy as I’m not leaving the house much right now and still working from home... but just nice tops / jumpers etc that aren’t covered in Mama slogans! I normally like Warehouse, Mango, Zara etc. Thanks in advance for any tips! X

Asos do some great bits- but also look on ebay- I got some asos tops for about £3 each, and there's a load of stuff still with tags on on there too x

I’m living in my black with tiny floral details boohoo dress I got for about £10 it’s loose and soo comfy and sometimes wear with a belt.
Other things I got were stretchy dresses, leggings and vest tops from H&M and then I have 3 dresses that aren’t maternity but fit still. Haven’t bought any jeans or anything as I can’t try them on in shops and feel too hot to wear anything restrictive!

Seraphine is great for stylish non-frumpy maternity clothes!

LASandOtto · 03/08/2020 13:29

I thought New Look had nice items (I don't usually shop there) that were inexpensive but stylish enough - some nice dresses, etc. Everything also fit true to size!

Topshop was a nightmare as sizing was massively off!

ASOS is ok, some of the stuff felt very cheap but the leggings were fine that I ordered.

Boohoo was good for maternity clothes and maternity pjs.

I’m 21 weeks and have survived so far with my normal summer wardrobe (I wear shorts a size bigger so I can belt them) and I’m starting to look at clothes for when I get bigger.

Love Leggings are brilliant, only maternity leggings you will need.

Jeans are tricky - definitely get your normal size and don’t size up. I’ve got one pair of under and one pair of over the bump, both from ASOS but neither of which I love.

H&M have some great boyfriend shorts, good for the weather now and also over tights in autumn.

ASOS, Topshop and H&M have been my main port of call so far, Envie de Fraises has good basics and have also picked up a top from La Redoute which I like.

I’m not really into dresses and find most maternity wear is about 80% dresses! I’m more of a jeans/shorts, tshirt and a blazer type!

I’m planning on wearing vests with shirts buttoned or unbuttoned over the top depending on how big I get, but currently I’m glad I haven’t bought too much as I’m still using my normal summer wardrobe.

Hello! I found H&M, Topshop and Asos really good. Especially the Asos maternity leggings (I found they come up a bit big so maybe consider sizing down). I find the prices for maternity clothes are a bit ridiculous sometimes, so I actually worked out my sizes then bought a few bits on ebay as they aren't used for that long. I also found I developed an aversion to wired bras, so I found a good measuring calculator online and bought a couple of good non-wired bralet things from M&S.

Currently 22 weeks and wearing Dorothy Perkins maternity joggers which are super comfy and look good enough that I don't have to worry about answering the door in them!

emilyvictoria17 · 03/08/2020 17:29

Thanks everyone! Have actually just landed on the Dorothy Perkins website which is somewhere I’ve never shopped and was pleasantly surprised by some of their stuff. Will check out the other places too, cheers! X

I love the maternity jeans I ordered from George at Asda and were only £16. I also got a dress and top from Boohoo which are great plus some tops from Dorothy Perkins. Most bits were in the sale too.

DerbyshireGirly · 03/08/2020 17:47

Seraphine is really nice and decent quality but on the more expensive side - worth it though.

ASOS have some non frumpy bits too.

I found that under bump jeans made me feel like a fat plumber with my belly hanging out.

Pea1984 · 03/08/2020 17:47

Oh and the £8 leggings from Asos are super comfy too!

Margo34 · 03/08/2020 17:58

32weeks here and still wearing my pre-pregnancy summer cullote shorts from last year (under my bump) - from Peacocks and Next 😊

Dorothy Perkins over bump mat jeans are super comfy (cost me £9 for a brand new pair when I was around 20 ish weeks). I tried ordering from ASOS, Newlook and DP mat but their dresses were very dowdy and ill-fitting, potato sacks the lot!

If you've got a bit more cash to spend have a look at the brands Seraphine and Frugi. They crop up on ebay regularly too.

I bought all my mat clothes from ebay except leggings and jeans, but still spent no more than £50 total. Not going out much/at all massively helped reduce the need to buy many mat clothes though. I also spend a lot of time in my dressing gown and my husbands t-shirts. The postman has got used to seeing me in my dressing gown now, I'd have been horrified to open the door like that before but it's now my new normal! 😂

VictoriaBun · 03/08/2020 18:00

Ebay !

WhatWouldPennyDo · 03/08/2020 18:12

Most of my stuff is Seraphine and Isabella Oliver with some Hatch and Madderson, too. I’ve topped it up with a few things from Mamalicious, Topshop, Gap and ASOS.

I don’t shop at places like BooHoo from an ethical perspective.

peachypetite · 03/08/2020 18:27

Love leggings for leggings
Avoid boohoo and asos like the plague!
Jojo maman, seraphine both have sales on

RowboatsinDisguise · 03/08/2020 18:47

Really disappointed with Boohoo, the quality is appalling. It’s very cheap though so not sure why I was surprised.

I have some decent stuff from ASOS but tbh I’m mostly just wearing my old tops and dresses with maternity shorts.

Anaesthetist83 · 03/08/2020 18:57

I have been really impressed with New Look - wasn’t expecting much by the price, but actually nice stuff and will probably have a look at their non-maternity clothes after baby (would never have shopped there before)

Sunshinedahlia · 03/08/2020 19:04

Jojo maman bebe has nice stuff and a sale on. H&M for all the basics.

orangejuicer · 03/08/2020 19:06

Also try bigger sizes in clothes you like (which are comfortable and not dowdy!) so you can wear them after.

TJ17 · 03/08/2020 19:14

Boohoo has more fashionable stuff and cheap too!

MrsR87 · 03/08/2020 19:22

For really nice outfits I like Seraphine but it’s fairly pricey. It’s worth looking in their sale though as they do some great reductions.

I think the quality of stuff from JoJo Maman baby is super and good value for money although I wouldn’t say it’s very fashionable. Great for work stuff though.

I’ve got some lovey prettier bits and basics from H and M, really impressed with their stuff.

I’ve was disappointed with the jeans for Dorothy Perkins. They feel very cheap and don’t fit properly at all. I had much more luck with next jeans. I think for that price bracket, the new look stuff is nicer, had some lovey dresses arrive last week.

I bought some stuff from Envie de Fraise, really pleased with the quality from there and some lovey pieces.

I second the comments about the leggings fro. Love leggings. I usually hate leggings but they are soooo comfy and they are not at all see through-my usually gripe with them. I will be ordering a pair of non maternity for ones when the time comes.

I have also got a few bits from eBay, much of it still with tags.

emilyvictoria17 · 04/08/2020 07:17

Thanks so much everyone this is super helpful x

Have you thought about maternity rental? It's much cheaper than you'd expect. I wish it had been around when I was pg - I bought some really expensive occasion dresses that got worn once. 😕

emilyvictoria17 · 04/08/2020 07:54

Ooh no I didn’t know rental was a thing but makes a lot of sense!
