Nursing chair recommendations?

Afternoon all,

I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant with our first child and I'm looking for recommendations for a nursing chair. I have spine problems (degenerative disc disorder) and I'm predicting that I'll need a really comfortable and supportive chair to breastfeed in.

I appreciate that the traditional chairs are pretty unattractive and orthopaedic looking but are they the most comfortable? There are some nicer looking chairs but they seem to be pretty expensive, below is an example of one that would actually match our house but I'm not sure if it's as comfortable as it doesn't have a high back/head rest and whether it would be worth spending that much of our baby set-up budget just for a nursing chair:

www.mamasandpapas.com/en-gb/hilston-nursing-chair-stool-silver/p/sensoa600?source=aw&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=Genie+Shopping&awc=6526_1588948272_e9ec7ba00af6e659307c924118d5c13a

I suppose the upside of the nicer looking chair is that you'd be happy to keep it for years instead of wanting to replace it as soon as you're through the baby stage.

In terms of the traditional/ugly ones does anyone have any specific recommendations? I've searched the old threads and there are a lot of recommendations for Dutailier but they don't seem to be sold in the UK anymore as I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them (they used to be sold by John Lewis but not anymore).

Normally I'd just go to some physical shops and try some out but we all know that's not on the cards anymore! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Rachel

Disclaimer: I never got one as I didn't have the space. Nursed in bed until she went to her own room then a dining chair was squeezed in for night feeds. Downstairs on sofa or out and about on all sorts for daytime.

But I would have loved to have the space and money for one. I think the one you linked looks good, it's got comfy arms to rest on when feeding (a lot I say had wooden arms and I think that would have been uncomfortable. It may be a bit annoying not having somewhere to rest your head back on tho. I like that it has a footrest too. I would also recommend a nursing pillow. Was a godsend for me for the first few months.

Good luck, hope you choose well!

That doesn't look comfortable for feeding - it's too low. I have one with a much higher back and it's so comfortable that we've moved it to the living room now ( youngest is 3 this year)

Mine was from Smyths Toys and i the region of £150. It was just as comfy as the more expensive but similar looking John Lewis one my relative had.

I've ordered this exact nursing chair OP. I've sat in multiple and can say that this one is really really comfortable and seems lovely quality.
Downside for me is that M&P customer service has been atrocious and they didn't let me know when they shut the factory so I took a day off work to be in for the delivery that never came! If you did end up going for this one, I would order it now because I ordered in March and now been given a delivery date this week for August.

Also looking for a chair, I've seen this one which is also nice but more affordable, seems to have good reviews too!

Sereno Nursing Glider maternity rocking chair with glide lock and footstool … (Natural) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004OW2KHG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_uJ7TEb22CHZ33?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

This chair is ridiculous!! I am already planning on moving it down stairs when baby is done breastfeeding!

My only downside is I don’t like the footstool as that rocks as well and doesn’t lock and I would prefer a fixed foot stool BUT my husband loved it because the swing with the stool and chair combined basically means it takes no energy/effort to rock the chair yourself and it kind of does it for you

Ikea do a rocking chair which is ridiculously comfy. I think they do a footstall too

@thosethreewords

Has your chair arrived yet? If so, does it come in one piece (ie wooden rocker “legs” attached)? On the website it says assembly required but no further details and when I tried to call and email customer service I don’t get a response. Thanks!
