I'm pregnant! 🙂

What now?

Things I should be doing?

Things I shouldn't be doing?

And as the title suggests things you lovely ones know now and wish you had known in your first trimester?

Take iron.

BexleyRae · 21/03/2018 07:31

Some prenatal vitamins might make you feel sick

Drink lots of water to help avoid constipation

If you get morning sickness and can't eat, any food is better than nothing

And congratulations 🎊

londonloves · 21/03/2018 07:35

Congratulations!
Sleep as much as you can. Try and get some gentle exercise. If you get sick, eat whatever you feel like. I found lemon squash very helpful for morning sickness. And ginger until 12 weeks then that made me sick too!

Addy2 · 21/03/2018 07:36

Start doing your kegels. There is an app for that.

PurpleTraitor · 21/03/2018 07:42

If I was going to have a baby or not. Might have saved my sanity.

PurpleTraitor · 21/03/2018 07:43

Sorry I see it’s the wrong type of thread, I answered the question literally.

EL332 · 21/03/2018 07:49

Thank you everyone! ❤️

Congratulations!
Sleep really helps.
Try to keep up whatever exercise you currently do because its really hard to start again.
What will be, will be.

ClareB83 · 21/03/2018 08:01

That bleeding does not necessarily mean you are miscarrying.

Wear all your skinny clothes.

Enjoy missionary while you can.

Eeeeek2 · 21/03/2018 08:53

Enjoy having clothes to wear

There are very few shops that carry maternity instore (jojomamanbebe do) so order lots to pick up from shop, and then try on in changing room and return straight away.

OfDragonsDeep · 21/03/2018 08:56

That the first trimester goes sooooooo slowly, but the weeks after that speed by and suddenly you're in hospital with a baby (well that's my memory anyway)

Sophiewofiex · 21/03/2018 08:57

Sleep binge on tv eat your life away you probably going to throw it up anyway Grin

Don’t feel bad about not moving from the sofa for a week.

LemonMuffin837 · 21/03/2018 10:05

Stay active, do squats, really work on your pelvic area and don't google anything!

appleblossomtree · 21/03/2018 10:47

Enjoy feeling well (if you do at the moment). I got severe sickness overnight and it was horrid.

Sleep lots. Drink lots of water.

Pregnancy vitamins.

Get some comfy stretchy loose clothes.

Juststrugglingabit · 21/03/2018 11:36

Feed the morning sickness - whatever you can eat and drink to feel ok is fine, MWs will confirm this.

Any shit symptoms will end. Focus on the fun parts. Or sleep.

If morning sickness is ruining your life, go to the doctors and ask for drugs. Sometimes they will give you them immediately and you will have your life back.

Statistics are meaningless. This is your pregnancy and it will go how it goes and you cannot change that. The odds are very much in your favour, so don't worry unduly until a doctor or MW tells you to.

Don't expect a bump or to feel movements until well into your second trimester, then you won't be disappointed or worried.

Try talking to your baby, even if you feel silly. You might really love it once you get the ball rolling. Don't worry if you don't want to though.

You only get one first pregnancy and it is an amazing journey for most women. Embrace it. Enjoy what you can and don't sweat the times when you are not enjoying it.

gryffen · 21/03/2018 11:41

congratulations!

. Bleeding isnt always the worst news.
. Constipation is a real issue - get friendly with a stool softner asap
. Not everyone gets symptoms
. Be prepared to be interrogated by midwife at booking appointment
. You wont feel movement with 1st pregnancy until after 20 weeks
. GAG REFLEX - I worked in a morgue and have seen it all but sheesh lol
. Get fitted for a bra thats comfy - those boobs can go pop early!

halfwitpicker · 21/03/2018 11:43

Carbs will ease the morning sickness

Baby2018 · 21/03/2018 12:08

Drink lots of water
be prepared for smells to suddenly make you gag / feel sick so stay away from certain foods
You get little pains in your tummy and little stabs its just your womb dont panic
I had an early viability scan at 9 weeks and I was so glad I had it, you can pay for them privately
Take pregnancy vitamins
wear comfy clothes and over sized shirts to hide the bloat!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 21/03/2018 12:14

Don't worry if you don't get any symptoms. Stay away from Google! Keep up the exercise if you can, it does make the rest of the pregnancy smoother.

Fruitcocktail6 · 21/03/2018 12:15

Being hungry is the worst feeling. I get dizzy, start dry wretching. It's hideous.

FloydOnThePull · 21/03/2018 12:24

Things i came to realise very quickly that have served me well...

Take pregnancy vitamins last thing before you go to bed as they can make you feel queasy til you get used to them. They also make you fart like a cart horse for a few days

Read the nhs guidelines on what you can and cant eat, realise that there's very little that they recommend you don't eat and then ignore everything else that anyone says in rl or on the internet.

Take a book to all scans and hospital appointments. And some downloaded tv and headphones if you have to go for a glucose tolerance test

Everyone who has ever had a baby will attempt to palm off their loft full of decades old baby crap on you.

Be prepared to drink more water than you have ever done before.

strawberrysparkle · 21/03/2018 12:44

Enjoy sex whilst you're still slim, during the third trimester you will feel as unsexy as it gets. Pregnancy is gross.

It's normal not to have a bump until 25 weeks and then all of a sudden be huge.

After 25 weeks when you start feeling movements pregnancy becomes more enjoyable (for me it did anyway).

Just because you've reached 12 weeks doesn't meant automatically you'll feel instantly better. It can go on a while longer but try and perceiver.

Midwife appointments are a bit of an anticlimax I found. I got excited for my first few and then they just do urine, blood pressure ect where as I thought I would get actual pregnancy advice. Don't be surprised if they don't listen to the heartbeat ever either, mine never have.

Eat what you like and don't let anyone judge you for it. I could only keep down lucozade for weeks and everyone kept telling me how awful I was for it.

The best advice is never take anybody's advice.

Don't tell people or buy things straight away if you can help it, it makes it a really long pregnancy.

Keep a pregnancy diary to look back on!

Your body temperature will go up loads as you are basically a human incubator.

If you have to have a GTT test it will make you feel a bit poorly sometimes after the drink but nobody ever admits to it.

Maternity clothes are mostly navy blue, stripy and hideous! Wear all your favourite clothes one last time whilst you fit!

Congratulations! ThanksCake

Don’t listen to no symptoms = a bad sign! (That caused me all sorts of anxiety- still does but 12 week scan was fine!). Old wife’s tale.

Don’t google ANYTHING if you can! Again, massive source of anxiety for me!

Every pregnancy is different - don’t compare yours to others x

EgremontRusset · 21/03/2018 15:27

Download the Squeezy app for your kegels.
Buy the book ‘Expecting Better’ if you like the science behind pregnancy advice (it changed what I did - I ate much more fish, had a bit of wine, and got meds for the morning sickness)

Cloudwalk · 21/03/2018 15:47

I wish I had know that getting into the right habits would have massively helped me later in preg

Find exercise you enjoy (I ❤️ Aqua) even if it isn't strenuous at the moment
Eating the right foods and quick ways of making healthy meals
Prenatal vitamins

Enjoy and massive congratulations
