Running buggy suitable from birth

Has anyone bought one? Would you recommend?

My wish list:

Running buggy
Suitable from birth to walking
All terrain
Durable
Maybe convertible to a double, but not essential
Will be stored in back of my car which will be a 4x4 so size not an issue
Not fussed on clickable car seat etc (maybe naive, feel free to try to change my mind!)
Some storage basket or something , but maybe removable would be good for cross country terrain?

Budget wise, not really thought about it, happy to go second hand if sensible....

Advice and suggestions much appreciated!

I don't think such a thing exists. As far as I know you aren't supposed to run with a baby younger than six months and certainly not before they can support their own head.

I have the Out n About Nipper Sport for running though, it's great, really sturdy and definitely all-terrain. I've used mine on the beach, gravelly paths and proper muddy grass etc with no problems. It's got a fixed front wheel though which makes it tougher to steer than my usual pram but you get used to it. It's got a net basket on the back which is pretty roomy and pockets in the hood for storing things. I'm tall, as is my husband, and no issues with kicking it when you run. The seat is comfy and secure too. I would definitely recommend it but do your research about the age thing . I didn't use it til six months.

Don't run with the baby until at least six months. People's explanations for this vary, but the compelling one is that repeated very, very mild concussion is damaging. Descriptions of concussion are now much more precise than they used to be and I think there is evidence that the kind of wobbling done by a baby in a jogging pram is potentially a problem early on.

Can i find said evidence? Not at the moment...

However as for prams suitable from birth that will convert to double, will hold a car seat with the right adapter, have carrycot options, etc, that you can also jog with when the time's right - Mountain Buggy ones are good & totally indestructible. Ours is 15+ years old and has been passed from one offroad walking/jogging family to the next. It's pretty big - i.e. you wouldn't take it into your local antique shop... but is great for walking up & down steep hills, jogging (front wheel can be fixed), handling on gravel/dirt, etc. Everything comes off & can be washed. See if you can get one secondhand as they're so expensive new...

Thanks for the advice, I'd actually read 9 months, not 6 so will further research that. I just don't want the hassle of selling/buying multiple prams and would rather an all rounder that I can use from birth amd start running when the time is right

I am going to buy the out and about nipper sport once Ds is old enough to run with, but I think it is disabled from birth for walking?

I just bought a second hand quinny zapp from Gumtree for£20 to tide me over until Ds is six months.

I regularly search website to see if the out and about I'd on sale or offer.

A few people at my local park run run with the BOB evolution pro running buggy but it is out of my price range. You could look at that.

Thanks fitz I'll take a look. The mountain buggys look good too, will have to discuss with dh, there is so much variation in price, I'm not sure what is reasonable!

Mountain buggy terrain. Can use main seat from birth or add carrycot first 6/7 months. Don't run until after 9 months but can use same pram

I looked at the Bugaboo runner and the Baby City Jogger. I was told in John Lewis that you aren't supposed to run with a baby younger then nine months old. They also told me the City Jogger wasn't designed for running with as the wheels weren't robust enough

(not any of their others e.g. City mini). Front wheel locks for running or unlocks for walking. Lies totally flat or takes carrycot for newborn (not for running with obviously). Big seat so you can run with older child.

Doesn't convert to a double.

No the bugaboo runner you shouldn't run with the first 9 months, but that's the same with any pram. But the bugaboo seat can bee attached in carrycot mode as same frame so you can use the runner from newborn as an all terrain pram for walking, just not running straight away

Pink Lilly that's right, the Baby city jogger is not a running buggy.

I got an out and about nipper single for 40 quid second hand on gum tree for my third child and although it's not pretty I love it. I don't really do proper running with it but often jog the school run in a rush . Dd is a sturdy nearly 3 year old and it still pushes/steers v easily and seems pretty indestructible. You need to put 'slime' in the tyres though as we had a few punctures before doing that.

The urban glide looks good, but is very big. At 5'5 I couldn't really push as handle high and could barely see over

We've just bought the out n about, I researched for a while and looked at comparisons between that and a mountain buggy and am really pleased with our purchase. It's brilliant for all terrains and for running. We were going to get a second hand mountain buggy but comparison reviews showed not too much of a difference.

Hmm, I've never heard anyone say a bad word about the out N about. Will have to shortlist that.

We got the nipper and bought spare solid tyres for pavements to avoid the risk of punctures. We've been pretty happy with it other than a puncture in the inflatable tyres - will try the slime.

Incidentally I was looking forward to running again with our second at six months - can anyone point me in the direction of the nine month recommendation?

Alice from what I have read and found, basically it depends on the individual baby and how strong they are, in terms how well they hold their body up. They cannot give a particular age instead it is recommended not to run until at least six to nine months.

I'd presume it also depends on how fast one runs! A slow jog on a smooth road would be very different to a very fast trail run rough terrain for example.

Alice - it seems to literally chage the advice depending on who you talk to. I had two doctors/ health visitors say 9 months, and two say 6+ months but slowly.

So from 6 months I was happier now speed walking and a bit more off road walking as in a little bouncier for baby, but didn't jog until a few months later. A pram with good suspension is good also as it reduces impact on baby.
Also I used to line pram with sheepskin liner and a head hugger type thing under a year so they didn't shake about also, kept sheepskin in whole time.
