Need to start - full time nursery

I really want to start potty training my little boy, but just don't know where to start. Without rambling, here's where we are:

-27 months old
-in nursery 5 full days a week
-neither husband or I can take time off until end of year
-worn pull-ups for about 5 months as too wriggly for tapes!
-thinks the potty is a great toy to play with when delaying bedtime
-no neon signs saying he's ready!

Nursery are fab and say when I'm ready to do anything, they'll do things however I want to do them... I just don't know where to start!

Help and advice please...? Smile

Is there a particular reason you want to start now? If there aren't massive signs he's ready, and you can't take any time off to really work on it, then maybe it'd be better to wait until later in the year (say at Xmas) when you have time off and can really focus on it and get it done in one shot, rather than the hassle of making a bit of weekend progress and then a bit of a backwards step at nursery. That's not to say nursery won't be great at helping, but compared to 1:1 parent hovering with a potty, I would expect it to be tricky.

Peer pressure Hmm a lot of his friends at nursery are already trained, plus he's growing up in lots of other ways and I just thought it felt the right time.

Try reading the Oh Crap book (I may have said this before on this forum...) BUT it has a whole chapter on how to manage potty training when your child is in full time childcare. Then see what you think.

Wait till he's ready.

I'd wait it out; I was feeling anxious about DS not showing any interest but one thing or another new baby meant that I couldn't give it much head space. We finally decided to take the plunge over a bank holiday, once retaliating that he was ready and just being lazy about it (previously the potty had just been a novelty).
He was 3.5 yrs old (ish) when we did it and we didn't have a single accident. He was ready and just needed those first few days of us remind by him and making him feel comfortable and confident using the potty. He had no problems after those first days adjusting to his other childcare settings.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! Good to hear that the oh crap! book mentions full time nursery... I've looked at the book before but hadn't seen that inclusion so good to know. Lots to think on... thank you all Smile
