Hi, DS is just turned 3yo. We did attempt potty training a few months ago but he just wasn't interested. And he still isn't interested! He is supposed to start Playschool in two weeks, they won't take him unless he is.
I am not 100% sure he is physically ready. He watches his siblings go, but has no desire to do it himself.
Any advice? TIA.

Dd starts Montessori on Monday and they require children to be toilet trained (we are not in UK). We went in today to meet the teacher and when I expressed concern that dd still used a child seat on the toilet she told me that there were lots still in nappies and pull ups and not to worry, so they may be more relaxed about it in reality.

Are you in the UK? I might be wrong but I thought it was illegal for a nursery/playschool/preschool to refuse to take a child because they aren't potty trained. As it discriminates against those with disabilities (often undiagnosed at this stage) who aren't physically ready till later. (I'm not suggesting there are any issues with your DS obviously, just explaining the legal reason why I think the playschool can't insist on this.) So while they may have a strong preference for potty trained children, I doubt it's a deal breaker if you explain you've tried very hard but he simply isn't ready. After all, what more can you realistically do?

Btw, DSis lives in Europe and the local kindergarten insist children are potty trained before starting at 3. She said all that happens is some children are sent with the parents stating they're trained but are actually having accidents every day... Can't see how that's easier for the staff than having a few children in nappies for a bit longer.
