Potty training

DS 3.10 will not poo on the toilet - help desperately needed.

He has been awkward with potty training from the start (after DS 1&2 being a breeze).

He refused the potty so has always used the toilet for a wee. The problem is that he refuses flatly to do a poo in anything but underpants \ pull-ups; the main problem is that he will not tell us when he wants to go and will happily poo in a swim nappy in the pool - Any advice on how to deal with this would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've just got back from seeing dd's hv for similar problem. Having started doing poos on the toilet she will now only do them in her nappy at night, and if she doesn't do that she holds all day till nappy goes back on. Dd is just 3 btw.

Hv advised that as soon as we see dd's warning sign that she needs a poo we should offer her a nappy straight away, to reduce as much stress to her as possible. After a few weeks of this we are to loosen the nappy, and to cut a whole in it, and reoffer the toilet or potty so she can poo through the hole.

I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I guess I have to follow her advise as she is the one in know

I have the exact problem with DD. She is 3.3 and we have been putting her in nappy pants just for pooing since about January. The only progress I have had in that time is that in the past few weeks she will actually sit on the potty (in front of the tv and if I bribe her!) which she pointblank refused before. Never poos in it though and asks for pull ups straight after.

I have been considering ditching pull ups altogether, which is what my childminder has suggested, but the problem before was that she would just hold it in and as a result got constipated so I am not sure it will work but I think I'm going to give it a go.

Sorry, no solutions, but definitely sharing your pain!

DD is the same and poos at night in her pull up. She is 3.6 and tells me she will poo on the loo when she's 4! Grin

DS is a similar age and we've only just got over this in the last few weeks. l don't really know what made it finally click but just wanted to reassure you that one day soon you will be able to leave the house without playing a shitty version of Russian roulette Smile
