I have started toilet training with ds 2.6, how often should he be weeing? it seems that whenever he sits on the potty he wees - even if its 5 mins after he last wee'd. is this normal? Confused

Hi, just thought I'd update. DS is just in pants in the daytime now and doing really well, asking for the toilet sometimes and just going by himself at home on the potty. Still having the odd little dribble then stopping himself and using the potty, but its only been a few days so hopefully he'll get around that soon! Pull ups were confusing him I think and its just as easy to change pants and trousers as a wet nappy imo.
mumto I think giving it another week is a good idea, I think they need to learn the signs of when they need a wee or a poo, which will obviously take some trial and error! for the last 2.5 years it hasn't been an issue for them! I'm just being relaxed about it; if it come it comes, if not we'll go back to nappies for a couple of months. :)

Sorry for hijacking with a long post. But thought it's nice to empathise with each other.

I'm in almost exact same situation as yourself. DS 2.5 been training for a week. Hes good at home in pants normally. Up until a couple of days ago I've been doing pull ups when we are out. But just recently decided that confusing him and decided to go for pants all the time. Although we don't go out for long and its generally to playgroups/toddler groups where a toilet is nearby.

He can pee on demand, pretty much every 10 mins on potty. I tend to keep checking if he needs to go throughtout the day. And if he hasn't been for just over an hour I put him on potty and he does a wee. Although he did once go for 2 hours. But I think this was a bit of a fluke.

I started wondering today if I need to start to lengthen the time between wees, but not sure how. I notice that towards the end of the day he seems to get more tired and more prone to accidnets. He had an accidnet less than an hour from when he last wee'd. I think this was partly due to excitement of daddy getting home. But it was making me start to wonder if he's not ready. Cos its surely not practical to have to be at toilet every hour. I read someone on here say that you shouldn't have to keep asking them, or its not proper potty training, they should be able to tell you when they need.

So confusing. I think I am going to persevere another week with what I am doing, with the hope of lengthening the time between wee's.

Thanks Bell, I think ds is maybe doing it more often for a sticker! We've been doing it for about a week with pull ups when we're out and pants at home and I guess I'm just worried he'll need to wee every half an hour when we go out without pull ups on which could be difficult!

Sorry, she now wees about 4 or 5 times a day - also 2.6 but stupidly started way too early (I realise now) at 2.

I think they get more able to hold it for longer as training continues. That's what I've found with DD anyway. She was also really good at the beginning at doing a tiny wee, getting her chocolate button, then going back to the potty several times in order to get more!
