Potty training

Good first day and now refusing to sit/wee on the potty!

My little boy has been showing signs of being ready to potty train for a couple of weeks - takes off nappies, tells me to change him etc and yesterday we tried to start potty training. I say we it is me, his dad is useless and cannot be bothered with it! Anyway yesterday using pull up nappies I got him to wee and poo on the potty and had a dry nappy all day until his dad got home and ignored him when I was cooking the tea. We had an arguement and his dad said what is the rush he will be ok he has a nappy on. I think son 2.6 heard this and as usual prefers daddies rules to mommies because basically he lets him do what he wants.

So today I have been putting son on potty and he is downright refusing to wee and then goes 5/10 minutes after in his nappy. It is distressing for me and him and I am fuming with his dad. BTW I am six months pregnant and finding it hard enough physically myself so need to have son potty trained for when new baby arrives.

Would you A keep persisting and put son on potty regardless or B stop for a couple of weeks and try again?

I have tried giving him rewards, he loves stickers and enjoyed that part but because today he hasn't achieved anything he hasn't been given a sticker and I think now that he is disillusioned.

Sorry so long but this is important issue.

You can get training underpants - like a cross between pants and cloth nappies I guess.

We just used normal knickers with DD1 and put her on the toilet first thing and during the day asked if she needed to go She never went on the potty.

She had a phase of wanting nappies back so we did for a bit but then encourages tge toilet again. I think because we've stayed relaxed about it it's been quite stress-free.

I'd go straight to pants. I'm a week into potty training. It's going terrible. I'm constantly cleaning the carpet and cleaning poo. It's vile but I found with my first child it was the only way got them to realise when they had gone to the toilet. They'd have happily peed all day in their pull ups. Stick with it- it takes ages. H just a quick update, DS is showing a real desire to use the toilet so we have bought him a set of steps with a training seat on and he uses this quite happily. However he is not very good at telling me when he needs to go and is having loads of accidents. I don't know whether to put him in pull ups which obviously prevent the accidents but won't really help him understand if he wees in the loo he wont get wet. Or use pants but have puddles everywhere yuck! I would love to know what other people do as I am a first timer with no experience. Thanks

Sounds like you had a really successful first day, so it's a real shame that things didn't go so well the second day. I'm assuming that you change most of the nappies so his dad probably isn't bothered because it doesn't affect him so much.

I started potty training this week but gave up after one day as DD was so distressed. I would wait a few weeks and try again. I hope you have more success the second time.

Had exactly same thing with DD and decided she wasn't ready. Left it and about 6 weeks later she said she didn't want to wear nappies anymore, handful of accidents and she was dry in a week.
