Tips for getting DS to do a poo in the potty and not in his pants?

Hi, we started potty training 3.2 years DS at the weekend (Saturday) and so far he is doing really well with pees but has yet to do a poo in the potty. We have promised him the Toy Story 3 DVD if he does a poo in the potty (which he is excited about and understands how to get it) but we have now had 3 poos in the pants despite this.

We are staying calm and relaxed about it all and I know it might be early days too but it's just so bleeeeurrghh cleaning the poo off hs teensy pants!

Any tips would be greatfully received, thanks.

My DD is 2.5yrs and we started potty training her about 10 days ago. She's also doing well with wees but apart from the very first night when she did a poo in the potty, every other poo has been in her pants. She doesn't tend to go every day so we do get some respite but that also makes it tricky in knowing when she will go and the days when she does it can be up to 3 times - joy!! Fortunately i can generally smell it so at least i have a warning when removing her pants rather than just whipping them straight down and the poo going everywhere!

I keep telling her that when she does a poo in the potty she can have some chocolate and there's a big sticker in her Tinkerbell sticker book that she loves and i've said she can have that too but i think part of the problem for us is the fact that she calls wees and poos 'poo poo' so yesterday after she pooed in her pants i showed it to her and explained again that when she needs a poo like that then she needs to do it in the potty. Not sure if it will work but it's worth a shot!

No advice, just standing shoulder to shoulder with you in the Pant Wars. DS had a great start to toilet training and has just regressed to going inhis pants for no apparent reason. I totally get the pulling down the leg thing -- it gets everywhere. On Monday I had to strip him and pop him in for a waist-down shower (which he rather enjoys, loads of attention Hmm) twice before we even got to lunchtime.

I have decided, after a bad experience with a load of laundry I ended up washing 5 times Shock to get the smell away, that some of the worst pants are just going into the bin.

He goes to nursery and if he has a poo accident there, they rinse off the pants and put them, sopping, into a nappysack and send them home to me. I think it was a pair of these that really did for that load of wash. It seems to make matters worse rather than better.

Yeah, thats not fun, we did end up (mostly) lying him down like changing a nappy, and that was slightly less messy.

Let him be fascinated with it going in the toilet and flushing it away, reiterate that thats where it needs to go and cross your fingers!!

Some get it really quick, I do have a stubborn s*d

I think it's just the yuk factor of pulling the pants down the leg with the poo inevitably coming with it and scraping along the leg... bleurghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

We had about 2 months of poos in pants :(
no amount of bribery, rewards, telling off etc worked. Then one day he just GOT it.

However, having been a real nappy user the scraping off poo from pants didn't really bother us too much, so maybe we didn't 'push' him as much as we could have. We got to a point where we just didn't pressure him, and thats basically when he got it.
