My DD is in year 8 and one of her favourite teachers is leaving tomorrow. She has gathered together some small gifts (chocolate mostly!), put them in a gift bag and made a card to give to this teacher. I happened to see the card that she'd made. She had clearly spent time on doing a good drawing on the front and a 3D pop up flag on the inside. But - the picture was of Hitler, raising his arm in a salute and the flag inside was a swastika. She'd written "good luck, I'll miss you" sort of thing in German. I told her that I thought it was massively inappropriate and she grabbed the card off of me and screwed it up. She was pretty upset. Did I over react? I feel really bad about it all! I explained why, and also told her that it was a lovely thing that she'd done, obviously taking care over it etc., but that the subject matter was misjudged. She said she'd made it because the teacher is a history teacher who likes teaching WW2. I'd love some opinions! Thanks
