School Shoes for nursery

Ok so my daughter (3) starts state nursery in September.
Uniform is optional (although they recommend it), so I've bought that but need to get her shoes. I'm quite fashion conscious and think most school shoes are boring, was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Or do I just have to accept that this is what school shoes are like?
Also would you recommend leather or patent?
And are ones with lights in acceptable? (I actually don't like these but my daughter is always drawn to them)
Thanks Blush

I work in a nursery and couldn't care less about the colour of their shoes as long as they're comfortable and weather-appropriate. Velcro ones are much easier as they soon learn to do them themselves, and if not, they're quicker for staff to help with. As others have said, they will get wet, muddy, covered in paint etc so don't buy expensive ones Smile

Any shoes which are good for running around in and easy to put on (Velcro) should be fine. A pair you have already will probably do.

I always suggest not sandals, so they don't get their toes trodden on, bark in their shoes, etc.

I've just bought uniform for my 3yo who starts nursery in September, nothing crazy just supermarket stuff so her good stuff doesn't get ruined. I'm am absolutely not buying new shoes for her. She'll be ready for a bigger size soon so I'll continue using what we have with her name put in them and they'll do.

Shoes will get muddy, painty, glued on etc so no way spend a fortune. Also think about fastenings she can learn to do herself. There are plenty of timea she will need to take them on and off ( wellies for wet or muddy days for example) and high top lace up converse would not go down well with the staff. She can wear boring school shoes for years to come so make the most of being able to be colourful.

Yes, it's her last chance to wear bright funky shoes daily! Why put her in boring ones?

I'm of the opinion that they spend enough of their lives in black/brown school shoes so if they are not compulsory I'd buy whichever shoes I wanted for nursery.
