Can this run from one half term to the next. Is this not a full term's notice?

Check the contract. There is usually a definition-usually it says by first day of term. If you give notice now, you need to pay until the end of next term.
It might be negotiabl if there are good reasons.

Notice usually has to be given at latest the day before each term starts. So before the start of the Autumn term in September to leave at Christmas. Notice give now would mean leaving at the end of Spring term (i.e.Easter)

No, it can't. A whole term means one whole term. If it meant 10-12 weeks notice (roughly length if a term) starting at any mutually agreed point, it wouid say that instead.

I'd say not. That would be 10 weeks (or whatever) not a term.
