Post natal depression

Hi all 👋 I have three beautiful children, 7,4 and 14 months. I'm currently a stay at home mum ( after working for the past 10 years !) And I'm finding it difficult to say the least. Post natal depression sucks!! 👎

With my last pregnancy things were a lot different. I had spd from week 16 of my pregnancy, which eventually ended with me being on crutches 😣 Then the birth was quite traumatic which left my baby with short term breathing difficulties and to add to the stress two days after we were discharged we were moving house, oh and Christmas was three weeks away 🤦

Any way...After my maternity leave with my first two I returned to full time work. This time I haven't and although I love spending time with my toddler I feel its making my depression worse! I can't find a job that fits around school hours or a childminder able to have all three kiddies in the school holidays! Problem 1!

Problem 2! I was trying to lose weight but have ended up gaining most of it back and now find myself almost the weight I was after having my baby 😔

I have a few questions If any one could give me any advice at all please?

  1. If you're a stay at home mum how does your day pan out? Any suggestions to get me out and about when i feel so depressed atm?
  2. Did anyone find weight loss hard after having the marina coil fitted ?
  3. Any weight loss tips for people with depression ? where to start etc ? I was following slimming world but cant focus on it atm.

I hope that all makes sense and hopefully there are some mummys out there who are able to help.

Tia,
Natalie.

Hi there.

I have spoken to my gp. Have been referred to the well being team. I was given anti depressants but I only took them for a few days as they left me with headaches and feeling nauseous.

I do try and go on walks but most of the time feel to tired to go anywhere ( apart from the school runs!) I have been to a church group once. Will have to try going regularly.

Thank you for your advice :)

Hi Natalie, welcome to Mumsnet and congratulations on your newest arrival.

Firstly have you spoken to your GP about PND? I know some folk don't like medication for depression but my experience after all my babies was positive. You feel a bit crap on starting but that passes and you start to feel more yourself.

You'll likely find that focus and energy return once medical needs sorted, SW or similar will become easier and then the knock on effect of losing weight lifts mood.

No idea re coil sorry.

Out and about: the weather will soon pick up and you'll feel more in the mood for high jinks in the park. Short term -pushchair/baby round the block every day for your benefit and baby's. Any church groups locally? I found them so great when mine were tiny, armsfuls of older ladies proffering cups of tea and scrummy cake with no god stuff attached. Just lovely.

Good luck.
