Due to get my assessment results today and it’s making me anxious…

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

After a lot of faff, I was finally referred to a specialist for and ASD assessment. I get my results today and I’m so nervous. I don’t even know why. Not really sure if I’m more nervous about getting a “yes” or a “no”. Specialist is lovely. She specialises in diagnosing adult women so process was great and very thorough. Still panicking though.

Not really sure what I’m asking. I guess I just need a bit of a hand hold from people who’ve been there!

It will feel weird for a long while yet. Takes ages to settle to the diagnosis.

Apologies for disappearing - on Thursday I finally got my diagnosis. Turns out I am, in fact, on the spectrum! I know the term Asperger’s is not really used anymore, but for ease of reference, that’s what I would be classified as. Apparently I’m also double exceptional.

On the day I felt thrilled, because honestly it does explain a lot. However, as the days have gone by, I feel a bit lost. I know I’m very fortunate in that I don’t need much support/ accommodations, if at all. But still, it’s like, what do I do with this new info? Who do I tell? I know I don’t have to tell anyone, but it’s such a big thing? And at the same time nothing has really changed?

I’m waffling… it’s just a lot of new info to take in…

I felt the same pretty much, relief, followed by feeling lost and quite flat.

The 'who to tell' - it's personal choice. Some people tell everyone, some people don't tell anyone, or some, like me, tell a few relevant people. It's entirely up to you. There's no harm in waiting until you've fully digested the diagnosis yourself, which, from personal experience, may not happen overnight.

You're right too about it feeling like a big thing, but nothing changes. We're still the same person we were pre-diagnosis. The main differences for me are self acceptance, not feeling compelled to mask, ditching guilt about saying no to social events and reasonable adjustments at work.

Welcome aboard 🍷

Oh how frustrating. Glad that hear you're a little calmer though.

How long have you been considering/suspectiny that you are ND?

Ah no. I hope it goes well and the wait isn’t too stressful.

Hi all,

So my consultation got cancelled and rescheduled for the end of next week… The saga continues! I’m a little bit calmer today but it’s just a bit nerve wracking isn’t it?

Oh no! I hate it when that happens
Good luck for next week

It can be nerve wracking. Hope it goes well and regardless of the outcome, you know best who you are.
