How long does progesterone (Cyclogest) delay a miscarriage?

Hi There :-)

I'd really appreciate any insights here in terms of timescales...

My story:
I was 6 weeks 2 days on Saturday and went for a private scan. Sonographer couldn't find anything but possibly saw a sac measuring 4 weeks. My dates are spot on as measured ovulation via clear blue - so definitely going to miscarry at some point given the 2 week gap. Also took a clearblue preg test and it showed up as 1-2 weeks (4 weeks) so hcg levels low. I took a preg test at the actual 4 week mark and this was a BFP - so it's impossible to still be 4 weeks now.

This will be my 3rd MC and the last one ended similar - low hcg levels and measuring off dates - MC'd 6.5 weeks.

I'm taking progesterone this time though and I'm wondering if the pregnancy stopped growing at 4 weeks but Cyclogest is delaying it - as I've read it can online.

I have a follow up scan this Saturday and so I'm still taking Cyclogest until then. It's a very deluded, outside chance that the pregnancy somehow 'catches' up... or was 'on pause'.... but I don't want to find that out and I stopped taking the progesterone before then. If that makes sense. I realize 99.9% not possible.

Anyway, appreciate any stories where possible. Thanks :-) xxx

Hi Egyptiangirl, (apologies unable to tag) thank you so much for sharing your story and I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like an awful experience :( Not too dissimilar from the one I'm about to have either.
I really appreciate the insight as it helps me understand more/ prepare.

Thank you and take care of yourself xxx

Hi SW83, I’ve just been through a miscarriage myself, ended at the weekend. I started light spotting at 7 weeks exactly and had been taking 400mg Cyclogest pessaries. At 7+2 I went to the EPU for a scan and there was a good heartbeat but baby only measured 5+6. At 7+3 I started heavy spotting in the evening and at 7+4 I had full on bleeding and cramping. I had been taking Cyclogest the whole time and had even increased the dose in the days leading up to the miscarriage. So, the short answer is, no, Cyclogest will not delay a miscarriage as I was miscarrying before my baby had even died. I believe it thickens and supports the lining but doesn’t stop you from miscarrying.

So sorry for what you are going through, I have had many miscarriages as well so I feel your pain. Xxx
