Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Feeling ill after traumatic miscarriage

Hi everyone, this is my first ever post, I’ve just joined specifically to see if anyone can help at all! I just had a miscarriage on Monday - i found it very traumatic as I was passing a lot of large clots and bleeding very heavily. Anyway I ended up at the hospital and the sac had got stuck so the doctor removed it then and there (very gory). My first miscarriage was very much like a heavy period despite it probably being at a similar stage. (I had one miscarriage, a healthy pregnancy and now 2.5 year old, followed by this missed miscarriage at 12 weeks measuring 6 weeks).

Anyway I have been feeling very feverish, tired, SO COLD unable to stop shivering, tired, dizzy, sick etc. I have been to the hospital to check for infection and nope - I’m fine ?!. Has anyone else felt like this after a miscarriage? I just want to move on with my life but can’t even get out of bed. I feel so guilty for leaving my husband to look after our daughter 24/7. Please tell me it will pass soon?! Xxx

Sounds like you’re not well, I’d go back to your doctor. Is it possible you’ve got a virus rather than an infection? I’ve had a missed miscarriage at similar dates, emotionally it took many months for me to process, but physically I was fine. I did get flu shortly after and that knocked me for six for a few weeks and then I picked up another virus, I’m rarely ill, but it felt like my emotional state made my immune system weak - or it may have just been rotten luck. Hope you’re feeling better soon. Don’t beat yourself up.

Sorry for your loss. Ive had 5 miscarriages and never felt those symptoms specially afterwards. I’m not medically qualified but those symptoms sound like an infection to me. Of course you might have a virus and the timing is coincidence but I would ask if I could be seen again just in case.

Thank you ladies for getting back to me so quickly. I was wondering if it was the shock catching up with me but I seem to be getting worse rather than better. Maybe a trip to my GP tomorrow is necessary 🙄 thank you both xxx

So sorry for your loss.

Did you see your GP today?

If they've tested for infection and you're clear maybe you have a virus or the flu? Might be worth a double check for infection though.

This happened to me after my miscarriage and ended up with sepsis. It presents itself with flu like symptoms, that's what I mistook it for and eventually ended up hospitalised. Hope this helps. You know your own body and if something doesn't quite feel right be persistent. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I got worse again so back to the out of hours doctor today and I have a bad case of tonsillitis!! So am on penicillin. Was just a coincidence that it followed my miscarriage - or maybe it was the blood loss/shock that lowered my immune system.

Hopefully this is the end now and I can move forward and start feeling better! Xx
