How true has this been for you guys??

I do spend the latter parts of my PG stressing about labour... Prolly cus I know how much its going to flippin hurt, and I worry about how much more battering my pelvic floor muscles can take... LOL

Those that have had a few labours and births, were you the same??

I have had 5 vaginal deliveries, 3 of which have been homebirths and am pencilled in for another with this one... Part of me thinks... Hmmmm Hospital birth with epidural... LOL Grin

I had similar 'good' labour with dd1 so didnt worry about dd2 but omg it was so painful like someone else said i literally didnt think i could be in that much pain and not dying! Although it was problem free.

When i found out ds was on the way i was terrified...but it was sooo quick which is in away worse but also no way near as bad as dd2 back on a parr with dd1 but quicker.

Think i would still be scared if i had another and can totally get the trying the epidural thing just out of curiosity but also cannot understand how i could possible push the way i push with the feeling and pain behind me it drove me on

DD1 birth was a breeze compared to the crappy pregnancies I have so was looking to 'improve' the birth for DD2 - what a shock I got. Dreaded it for DD3 as had left bigger gap, then didn't care about the birth with DD4 which was at home and one of the better births.

Had a walk in the park labour with dd1 - I have even decribed it as 'a nice day out'! dd2 was awful - so quick that i felt I was being run over repeatedly by a train. Honestly felt I was dying. Hence I'm feeling slightly tense about going through it again with dc3 and I'm only 8 weeks!

I'm with you Rilith. I'm also thinking along the lines of 'sod the homebirth I want an epidural'.
Even if it's just to see what it's like IYSWIM?

Totally agree threecurrantbuns, that it's the 'afterwards' and the real work that is the off-putting bit.

Juuule i agree, but thats what is scary as sfterwards the real work begins! But everytime i see one born it make me want to do it again!!

Could never manage 9 though WinkSmile

Oh absolutely not true for me.

I looked forward to the excitement of "is this it?".

For me it was so exciting knowing it was starting, knowing what was happening, knowing that I'd done it before and then really throwing myself into it. A bit like a really scary fairground ride. Anticipation and excitement, then the thrill of the ride but hard work, then the exhilaration as the baby is born, then the relief and calm afterwards. And then.......after a variable amount of time......a feeling of 'oh boy, I wouldn't mind doing that again' Hmm

Crazy, me? never Grin

Actually the first thing that came into my mind when I started the contractions with DC3 was "I've just remembered how much I hate labour". I forgot inbetween pregnancies but I agree that knowing what's ahead is in some ways worse than labour first time.

Grin numpty, my pushing stage with dc3 was 4min...although i couldnt believe it felt like four hours at the time Smile

I really look forward to labour! My first was a c section with a spinal that didn't work so anything has to be better than that. And i found that with each subseqent birth i was more confident as i knew what to do and so each one seemed easier. In fact dc no 4 required only 2 mins of pushing. I like to think i'm efficient - dh says less polite things!

ME! When i got a positive test with no3 i was literally terrified, dont know why as have straight forward births with just g&A but it still bloody hurts!

But it turns out dd2 (dc2) was my worst labour and i weirdly enjoyed no3 if that makes any sense!!

I know once labour starts I will get through it... All I think about is "Its not forever" and "Once baby is out it stops hurting"

I think the run up to labour is the worst, when you are thinking about whats coming :p

I've only had 2 and not planning anymore but have lots of pregnant friends going through it and imagine I'd be more fearful of the labour if I got pregnant again.
With my first I got in a state imagining something bad was going to happen to him (I think because I'd m/c before and my brother had died) so went to hypnobirthing classes. The other women there were there to learn strategies to overcome fear. Anyway, my point is I'd really recommend the hypnobirthing to give yourself a boost of strength. Failing that, book the epidural! And congrats.

YES!!!

I can remember labour starting with DC4 and sitting crying because I couldn't bear the thought of going through it again.

I was just starting to have major panics with DC5 when we found she was breech and I had to have a CS. I was so relieved.
