Home educating

I know there is a designated topic on this subject but wanted to link it to the larger family. Does anyone here home educate or have you considered it?

I have 4 and have HE since I was pg with DD4 so over 4 years.
I think it's easier than taking 4 kids to school and buying 4 uniforms etc.
But if we move we're planning on them going to school.

I HE 4 of our 5 (DS1 is away at uni.) LIke Juule, our kids are better served by not being at school.

I find that it is often heavy going as I have a wide age range (18-7), I have absolutely no support, there are no other He families in the area and we are on a very low income so we are mostly stuck at home because we can't go out and about. There are very few services or places for kids to go around here (nearest park is an 8 mile round walk, for example) and public transport is rubbish and very expensive. However, things are so much better than anything we experienced in school or nursery.

It works for us up to a point but I sometimes feel that we aren't achieving what we should be and I always feel sad when I read on here and other places about all the wonderful things that other HEers can get up to. It is also quite a challenge to make sure that each child is focussing on their own stuff, especially as the house is very tiny and there is nowhere that they can go to be on their own to work quietly. In saying that, I would never send any of them back to a school environment, it just wouldn't be worth it.

So far, so good (most of the time).

It can be hard work sometimes but that is possibly due to having to deal with a large household and children at home, school, college and university.

Without going into details we decided that some of our children would be better served by being educated at home.

At present it seems to be working for us

How do you find it? Why did you decide to HE?

9 children. Have home-ed 4. 1 from y4 until returned at secondary age(y7). Still HE 3.
