Black mould on silicone (?) seal around bath

Just that really. You can’t scrape it off because it’s like trying to scrape jelly. Bleach hasn’t don’t any good, bit has vinegar it bathroom cleaner.

Any ideas?

Bit of bleach on piece of toilet roll left overnight and rinse in the morning, keep on top of it as soon as it shows signs of appearing.

The best thing is whitening toilet gel. I think Harpic do one. Just squirt it on and leave it for half an hour then scrub/rinse off.

My understanding is that bleach removes the dark colour but to kill the actual mould and stop it returning you spray with vinegar. I have to say the only thing that works for me is weekly cleaning and I am only just keeping on top of it. Then again we don’t have an extractor fan.

As a previous poster has said, soak kitchen towel or toilet paper with bleach and leave it stuck to the silicon overnight. Remove and it will have gone. Totally works.

In my shower, I use neat bleach (any) and scrub it in with a toothbrush. It gets right at the black stuff and eliminates it. I leave it on for as long as possible, usually until someone has a shower.

I tried HG spray to no avail. I removed it and applied new silicone.

Thick bleach, deftly apied along sealant, left ten minutes then rinsed. Or re-seal if its really bad, itwill only start lifting off.

I used to mix bleach with bicarb to make a paste, paint it on, leave overnight and rinse off. It leaves it sparkling. I have a decent extractor fan now and it doesn't happen.

So I tried some spray bleach - it took a few gos (and the whole place smells very bleachy) but it’s almost gone now and the grouting has some up nicely too (it had some weird orangey stains in places).

Now can anyone remember what two cleaning items you really shouldn’t mix - I’m sure it’s vinegar and something (soda crystals)? I remember reading online ‘never never never mix these!’ and thought ‘I’d better remember that...’ and promptly forgot.

I think it's generally not a good idea to mix chemicals. Bleach in particular can give off ammonia when mixed with certain things which can be fatal. I would try one thing at a time and rinse thoroughly before using the next product.

It was definately two things that you would possibly have - not vinegar and bicarb (makes a good paste for cleaning the loo). Knowing me it will pop into my head as 'oh you can mix these two to get a good clean'

HG mould spray is what you want. Spray & leave & then hose off.

The bleach seems to have done the trick. A coulple more sprays and it will be gone. Of course the whole place stinkg of bleach and I can practically taste it, but at least the seal is white again. I will get the mould spray next time to save my poor nose!

I just used this pen, it's brilliant! Scrubbed with a toothbrush and bleach to kill the mould then this to whiten.

The mould remover sprays work but you have to use them every clean. It’s become part of my routine now to spray it on my bathroom and leave it 5 minutes before rinsing them cleaning.
