Paint colour for a room without natural light

Hello!
We've just bought our dream victorian terraced house and I love it, but it's white all over and needs some love with the decorating.

Our first project will be the middle room, which is the dullest of them all. It's lacking any natural light as the previous owners built a little porch extension where the window is, so we have a window looking out to the porch, which is already low on light due to the side extension if that makes sense?

I'd like us to use the room as a cosy place to have guests in the evening. We're going to have the dining table in there and then maybe a couple of armchairs, some bookcases and the record player.

I can't for the life of me choose a colour. Because there's no light I figured it's not worth trying to make it lighter so I'm leaning towards a deeper, rich, cosy colour. Has anyone solved a similar problem? Any suggestions? 😊Thanks😊Thanks!

Thanks for your reply LibertyLily! That sounds wonderful and I was actually leaning towards quite an olivy colour (FB Bancha) but had no idea how it'd look in the dark room IRL so that was good confirmation 😁. You've also inspired me to look at some floor lamps for an even cosier feel. Good luck with your building work.

In addition to our multitude of lamps, we're going to be hanging a ceiling mounted candelabra with real candles over the table for Christmas which I think will add to the atmospheric feel.

This sounds amazing!

Thank you @superdupernova - I hope so!

Our house is older but we have a similar room. We also chose to embrace the dark side (although we naturally favour darker, earthier colours) and went with F&B Olive in estate emulsion. It suits the age and period features of the property and whilst not cosy in the way that a red for example would be, it definitely has a warm vibe, imho....although that might be down to the wood burner!

Coincidentally, our room is where we have our dining table too - although we're in the process of opening it up into an adjoining living room (otherwise I'd put up some pics) - plus bookcase etc 😉
