Family friendly island near Santorini so we could do a day trip?

Hello,

I have been wanting to go to Santorini for years but now have a DS who is 3 years old. I still want to go however DH is afraid of all the cliffs etc so we thought we’d go to a nearby island so we could go there for a day.
Can anyone recommend me a family friendly island nearby Santorini where we could travel by Ferry to Santorini?

Thank you!

Thank you for all the replies.

I did research online and nearly everybody suggested it was irresponsible to take a toddler to Santorini hence why I was apprehensive to go.

thank You to those who clarified that my toddler won’t just walk off a cliff!

I'd just go to Santorini. I've just been there for three days and never went near an open, dangerous cliff face. Yes the main town is built on a cliff, but there are walls.... you would have to be totally negligent, and let him wander off, have him somehow wander down different streets and scale a wall etc, for it to be an issue. There are probably some open countryside bits with cliffs, but no need to go there, or if you do put him on a wrist lead?

Don't really understand the logic that it's safe for a day trip? But if you sleep there overnight, your DS would be in danger?

Can second the fact that there is a chunk of Santorini with no cliffs at all and which is great for family holidays. We stayed in Kamari on the beach (black sand!) and had a lovely time.

You can get ferries to and from Naxos which only take an hour each way
Some trips are longer, it depends on the type of boat you take. When we went, there were 5 crossings in each direction per day but there may well be more in high season. The port is Athinios, so try to find accommodation near there.
The fast ferry to Crete takes around 2 hours, and I wouldn’t want to do that twice in one day with a 3yo.

A map will help you out here. We went to Santorini from Naxos but not sure there is an airport on Naxos so that is not necessarily helpful.

Santorini is not all cliffs. One side is not cliff-y at all.

You can day trip from North Crete, the fast ferry is just over an hour.
