Dc has child passport (is 19) and it expires May 2023. Was issued Jan 2018 so five years would be Jan 2023.
will this be ok for travel
in Europe in September?

Thanks oh for the link I got really confused by it when I looked before as it only refers to ten years (adult) and I thought if it applies to childrens that would be five years.

Yes its fine as child passports are valid for less than 10 years even with extra months added

Your passport must be: issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)

From the gov website. So assuming you can just switch the 10 for 5 for a child's passport you're fine.

You need to check the advice for the country you're travelling to OP

Yes that’s fine as it’s less than 10 years old and has more than 3 months validity. Assuming you are travelling to a Shenghen area country. Check the individual country rules.

Its 3 months validity for travel to Europe. And I think the extra months on childrens passports are fine, the issue is with adult ones and the 10 year validity.
