Holiday suggestions

Hi. I would like to go abroad for a couple of weeks over the summer. I would like to go to somewhere that offers good beaches plus surroundings that are historical and that would be suitable for exploring and walking. I do not want to go anywhere that is too crowded and touristy.
I do not have a car and do not drive. My son who is 12 would be going with me and I would like to go somewhere where he could meet other children and not have to spend too much time on his own. Unfortunately, I am on a tight budget so this might limit my choices. I wonder if anyone has been on a holiday to a destination that might fulfill at least some of my requirements?

Can you still get coach / ferry deals to France? Have you got camping kit?

Are you anywhere near the ferry ports in the uk or would you have to factor in travel there too?

Flights and accommodation for £700 for two is unrealistic in summer hols I'm afraid. That's about £25ppn per night inc travel

If you have a look at Booking.com and put in a budget of less than 100 euros per night, it brings up a range of places near the beach in Northern France. Some as cheap as 300 euros for a week.

Even Eurocamp is over budget in the summer holidays I fear. You might manage 1 week with Flixbus and YHA or a really cheap rental. But no holiday setting with other kids is likely to be that cheap in the summer holidays. Dunirell in NL for a week in May might be possible for under 700 euros.

Eh £2k minimum then maybe!

I honestly can't see how that budget would work and meet criteria such as being with other kids.

For that amount I would look at flixbus/eurobus for travel plus youth hostels/cheap hotels independently or camping if you want 2 weeks, you might find 1 week somewhere as a package h/b but will not the best area.

Independent travel means you can be adventurous, bus to Paris, couple of nights in a youth hostel, bus to the south for a couple of nights, over to Italy back through Austria then Germany... I paid €5-10 for long journeys on flixbus, dd has found a £35 ticket from London to nice this summer

What is your budget for - flights/accommodation and is it all together?

Because that isnt going to go very far in 2022 Im afraid. Holiday prices are silly

I don't think £700 for flights and accommodation for a fortnight for two people is remotely realistic in the summer holidays I'm afraid. £700 each sounds possible though.

I think I'd look at Menorca. It's small, has two lovely historic cities, excellent beaches and a good inexpensive bus service.

My budget would be £700 or thereabouts. I'm not sure how realistic that is. I haven't been on holiday for sometime.

You need to give us a clue about your budget. Mumsnet has people who believe £15k is a tight budget for a holiday.
