We are a family of 4, kids are 8 and 6 when we want to go in summer holidays were limited to the UK or a cruise due to being extremely scared of flying
And only can really get 1 week of work together.

We need ideas please where are you going this year?

Galloway in Scotland, beautiful beaches, small market towns and old castles and placees of interest, looks like Cornwall (but so much quieter) and for you, straight up the A1 and across to Carlisle.

I've heard people having some bad experiences being stuck in cabins recently when they've had a covid outbreak, so I wouldn't choose a cruise this year.

Slightly off topic but depending on who is scared of flying, there are courses you can go on to help. My friend did this so that her DC wouldn’t pick up on it and be scared to fly when they were older. She said it really made a difference Smile

This year we are planning 4 nights in London and a weekend in the Peak District.
Previous years we have had fantastic holidays to North Wales, know a lovely cottage in Beddgelert. Lots to do and amazing beaches. Also loved holidays in Northumberland, we’ve stayed near Alnwick.

Hoping for Jersey and via ferry as one of the family does not fly well.

Plus a city break in Bath.

Northumberland is my favourite place though.

There are loads of lovely holidays you could do in the UK with DC that age, as they don't care if go abroad or not. We've had great weeks away in Northumberland, Lake District, Dorset, Cotswolds, North Norfolk, Suffolk, Pembrokeshire ... I actually didn't love Yorkshire, but there's plenty to do there and from Lincolnshire it's an easy drive.

I'd look around Pickering - from there you've got Dalby Forest (mountain biking, walks, Go Ape), North York Moors Steam railway, Whitby, Scarborough, Castle Howard, York, loads of easy walking, all within striking distance and that's just off the top of my head!

Agree with @emmathedilemma - York and Yorkshire is perfect!

We’ve booked a city break in Bristol for mid August. We’re going to the International Balloon Fiesta, but we’ll also take the kids to the zoo and take the train to Bath for the day. Might have a beach day at Weston Super Mare and visit Cheddar Gorge.

Might be too far and we also flew there but can get a ferry but went to Isles of Scilly last year, good for beach, canoeing, horse riding, gardens, boat trips, wildlife and culture but ferry goes from Penzance which is quite a way from you.

Based on your criteria, York and North Yorkshire Moors.

We had a great week in the Isle of Wight last year, lots to see and do, very friendly and going across on the ferry made it feel almost like abroad!!

Northumbria would be nice from Lincolnshire, or north Norfolk.

@emmathedilemma

Which part of the country are you starting from? Assuming you don't want a 12 hour drive each way.....
What sort of holiday do you enjoy.....cities, beaches, countryside, activities, theme parks.....??

Were in Lincolnshire. We like a beach /city/culture type of break we can drive but the idea of abroad at the moment still really make say mind boggle with all the rules and regulations plus id need to get passports for the kids

How about going on a cruise, there are lots of very family friendly ships. Or Jersey, there’s plenty of nice things to do there.

Pembrokeshire
Isle of Wight

Whereabouts are you?

If you drive, take the Eurotunnel and head to France / Holland or even further.

If you don't drive, take the Eurostar to Paris and then change trains to the rest of Europe. It's very easy to get to the south of France, Germany, Italy, Spain etc.

Or of course get a ferry over to France / Spain / Holland / Ireland / Channel Islands.

So you're not confined to the UK or cruises.

(We went to Suffolk last summer and had a lovely week)

Norfolk or Suffolk - much less rain than anywhere in the West Country. Quieter, and lots of nice beaches in places like Southwold.

Scotland. Maybe in and around Aviemore for a wide range of activities.

We drive via Eurotunnel- takes best part of a day though so possibly not ideal if you only have a week.
