Pre departure UK testing

I am just trying to work out what is required - don’t know if anyone has had any more luck?! Do they need to be administered by someone, can they be the private self-administered ones where you take a photo of it with your passport and they send a certificate? I can’t find any information and it is making my head melt a little bit?!? Thank you!!

The pre-departure test can be ANY test that is not a NHS free test that meets the following requirements:

This means that you can either book with a UK private provider before you go and take the test with you or you can take a test locally in whatever country you are in as long as it meets the requirements above and the results notification is in English, French or Spanish.

Ordered from Randox. It was for the LFT to take in resort and the PCR on return - you self swab.

Got a discount code and it cost £64.50.

That's for both the tests. So you can take one in resort day 2 prior to departure and have to log it along with the serial number.

Then you have the PCR for day 2 when you return.

As for where to order from I found a list on the jet2 website. But not sure if the ones mentined on this thread are OK as well. Need to investigate...

From what I've read yes you can order the LFT before you leave and take it with you to do when you're away.

I don't understand this though, for the ones where no one is observing you, what's to stop you faking the test? Rather than risking getting a negative and not being allowed to board your plane home?

Hello - apologies I deleted my post as it was a bit outing - sorry! The guidance has been updated overnight - it’s as I was hoping:

When to take your test
You must take the test in the 2 days before your service to England departs.

For example, if you travel directly to England on Friday, you could take a test any time on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The test result must be available for boarding.

If your journey to England is a multi-leg journey, you can take the test in the 2 days before the start of the first leg.

The tests can be self administered as long as they are private ones and they give you a certificate. It’s helpful for us as we can test before we leave and then if one of us was positive not travel (obv!) but at least I know we won’t get stuck abroad which is the main thing I care about.

You have to quarantine in the UK until you get the result of your day 2 test.

You can take the day 2 test anytime from when you arrive in the UK.

Im still confused. Just started a new thread because I’d forgotten about this one.

I’ve worked out I can get a test locally sometime in the 2 days before flying home from germany. Before the outward flight i have to fill in a locator form and book a test for when I get back to the uk? Does this sound right or have I missed anything out?

What I can see is:

Does anyone know if you can order a test online prior to departure and take the LFT once in resort - if so - where would you order this test from.

1. Arrival in UK. PCR test required.
   

Do you have to go to a centre for this test or can you order a test and take it at home.


Regarding the above - I find it difficult to believe you can take a test kit with you and do it yourself in resort? How can you confirm that the test is indeed negative?

Hi we will be coming from Sweden. I used c19 after travel from France earlier this year and it was great - v simple and easy but not supervised. I would happily use them again but it’s not clear whether it needs to be supervised or not (unless I have missed something?) I wish it was all just clearer and didn’t keep changing :-(

Cute. Are you talking about the Day 2 test you do once you have arrived in the UK or the one that allows you to get on the plane back to UK I.e fit to fly?

Im trying to make sense of it too. I thought it had to be done two days before returning to the uk. Then I re-read the info and thinknot can be done any time within the two days prior to journey. In which case I was thinking to get one done at the airport. But not 100% sure I have understood it properly. Can it be a rapid flow or does it have to be a per? God it’s a faff

Whatever you do, don’t book Collinsons tests. I got them done on Tuesday for results guaranteed within 36 hours - and still waiting.

For returning to the Uk you can use the self administered ones where you send the pic. For other countries someone has to do it on you.

I first used qured which someone guided me over a video call and the second time I used c19 as it was cheaper and nobody saw me doing it

We're going away this week and have booked Qured tests too. We used them loads in the summer and they were great.

So which country are you travelling back from. I have done a video supervised test from Europe to get back to the UK using Qured. They see you doing it via a Zoom type call and then an hour later they send you a Fit to Fly certificate.
